Just wondering how many Redskins fans think Smith is an upgrade over Cousins? I don't know all the details but I find it bizarre Washington didn't want to keep Captain Kirk.
The 5 O’Clock Club: How long will Alex Smith be a Redskin, based on his contract?
more on the contract , we are married to him for 3 years

It's neither an upgrade nor a downgrade, it a wash. Each player gives something that the other doesn't.
There were a few here who correctly detailed what the situation was here regarding Kirk as far back as the 2015 season. Some regarded it as a personal thing while others saw it from a strictly business perspective. Ironically, when deals like this fall apart it becomes personal at some level.
We should have stopped reading when it said after the 2015 season, the Redskins didn’t want to pay 58.5 million in guaranteed money. Can somebody, anybody, show me where KC asked for that?
I heard kirks counter offer in 2016 was 3 yr fully guaranteed. That may’ve been 58.5 m
I think the ironic thing is Kirk would have signed this contract in 2015 and he would have 3 more years left on the deal taking him to age 33. A year younger than Smith is now.
So take out the Cousin's part and this is team friendly contract based on the direction QB salaries are going. BUT as I mentioned you could have had have had Cousin's for the same time period and same money. The difference is Cousin's would have been a FA after the next three years whereas with or without Smith he will still get paid some part of that contract.
But we have to roll with what we have. So welcome Alex, good luck Kirk. Lets play some ball. We need to get some OLBs, CBs (maybe), WRs (in my opinion), more DL, OL depth and a RB.
