Money can't buy happiness, but it can buy bacon
Is this a leverage ploy to get more public money for a new arena in Edmonton? I wonder what Ballsy is thinking...
Daryl Katz, together with the group AEG, which operates Staples Centre in Los Angeles, was pushing Hamilton City Council Tuesday for control of Copps Coliseum, and the still -to-be-built Pan-Am Games stadium. The parties met behind closed doors in Hamilton Tuesday morning, but the outcome of that discussion was not made known as of the noon hour.
According to the Hamilton Spectator newspaper, Oilers' president Patrick LaForge has written the city manager seeking a non-binding memorandum of agreement to licence and operate the arena, and a stadium to be built for the 2015 Pan-Am Games.
The news comes as a shock to Edmonton City Council. Members of council had insisted there be public negotiations here for the downtown arena plan. But, that is at odds with the Katz Group which insists on holding those meetings behind closed doors.
