Tigers defense gave us the game til the end...then the Royals bullpen gave it right back.

Worst thing about the Tigers defense was it extended two innings for Verlander -- particularly the 4th. JV said after the game that he cruised through spring training never having to throw anywhere near 30+ pitches in an inning. That walk to Infante (who rarely walks) to force in a run was fatigue more than anything.

All worked out in the end, anyway.

Vargas just needs to survive until the 6th inning, and hopefully, the usually reliable pen/defense can clamp this puppy down.
