Well, this is all real fun for stat geeks and gamblers trying to find an edge but in the game of football at play-off time, it's completely meaningless. All that matters for any of these guys is this weeks game. Win that and then next weeks game matters and so on. We live in an age where the QB is given far too much credit when the team does well and receives far too much blame (usually) for the teams loss. Now, I don't mean to downplay the position. It is very important but I think we tend to go overboard looking at these guys. Whether Kaepernick was great or terrible in his games against the other guys is irrelevant. If he wins this weekend and next (road games), his QBR and all that other crap mean nothing. He could play great and lose or play terrible and still win. All it takes is one big play here or there and games change. The Seahawks were in good shape to pull out a win in San Fran last month until Frank Gore burned them with a big run. Absolutely nothing to do with Kaep.

Exactly. W/L is the ultimate team stat in the ultimate team sport. Crediting an individual player, even the QB, with a W or an L is for simpletons!

So far we've established in a couple of threads that Kaepernick (1) plays worse than usual against good teams and (2) plays worse when one or more of his starting WRs or TE is not on the field.

Who gives a rats ass. He's 1-0 right now and that's all that matters. I don't think he threw the ball particularly well against GB but he won that game with his legs.

At the same time, Peyton Manning fan, completely giving a QB a pass for an atrocious W / L record in the postseason is likewise for simpletons.

Why am I not surprised that you still don't get it? In my opinion, W/L is the ultimate team statistic in the ultimate team sport and it's dumb to ascribe that stat to any individual player, including a QB. That said (for about the third time in this thread), how in the world do you infer that I give PFM "a pass" on a stat that is not even rightly applicable to any individual player?

Also, the teams that PFM has played on in the playoffs have a record of 9-11, including a SB win and another appearance in the SB. Seems to me that even a simpleton would understand that that is not an "atrocious" team record.

I didn't. And I wasn't saying Peyton Manning's record in the playoffs is atrocious (it's not great though). Some QBs who get a lot of credit for regular-season stats get exposed in the playoffs IMO.

I was just qualifying your statement by showing that the opposite argument is also a bad one.

This is like when I blast people who claim the NFL combine is useless. They simply don't understand the draft. It's not everything (like W / L record), but it's a very important part of the story.

QBR is ridiculous. Last week in GB Kaep was 16/30 for 227 yards passing with 1 TD and 1 INT, yet his QBR was 88.8 because of 98 rushing yards

Thats because he rushed for those 98 yards as the quarterback, believe it or not a quarterbacks legs can help him terrorize defenses, why shouldnt it factor in?

W/L isn't completely useless when it applies to a QB but it does need to be put in context for it to be worthwhile.

Kap is 1-4 against teams still in the playoffs but he also has a 3-1 playoff record so you can only draw so many conclusions from just picking out W/L records.

W/L record is a team stat but QBs get it attached to them because they simply are the single biggest contributor to a win or a lose. In my opinion the most important aspect of your team is the offensive line but that is a unit composed of 5 guys whereas QB is 1 position and it can dramatically improve your chances to win or dramatically improve your chances to lose.
