Oregon DT Maloata arrested, dismissed from Ducks
"
On Sunday morning, Oregon woke up having to deal with an embarrassing 52-27 loss to Stanford suffered the previous night.
But Mark Helfrich’s team will have to recover without one of its defensive starters.
Junior defensive tackle Austin Maloata was dismissed from the Ducks on Sunday following his arrest, according to Oregon Live. The Eugene police said Maloata was arrested at 1:48 a.m. for DUI and reckless driving. Maloata allegedly drove through a red light near campus before hitting another vehicle.
Maloata was also charged with possession of a controlled substance after Methamphetamine was found in the vehicle.
Rated as a 3-star prospect in 2014 recruiting class, Maloata was ranked as the No. 81 defensive end in the country and the No. 10 defensive end in the state of California. The Corona native signed with Oregon despite holding additional offers from Arizona State, Miami, Ole Miss, UCLA and USC, among others.
He was a part of the No. 22-ranked recruiting class in 2014, which also included former 5-star running back Royce Freeman and former 3-star running back Tony Brooks-James, both of which have emerged as star ball carriers for Helfrich’s team.
In 14 career games with the Ducks, Maloata had recorded 38 total tackles, 17 of which were solo tackles. He also recorded 3.5 tackles for loss and 1.5 sacks.
Oregon currently has 12 total commits in the 2017 recruiting cycle, which ranks No. 29 in the nation. Of those 12 commits, only two are defensive linemen: 4-star defensive end Langi Tuifua and 3-star defensive tackle Rutger Reitmaier."
