Star of Rant ...

Since I have some free time ... thought I'd look into our team (and others) just to checkout some statistics ... As most of us have stated we are well aware that we need some more offense. After look art some other teams ... I was a little dismayed at what I saw ...

I look at the current division leaders as well as the current WC teams. All I was interested in was HRs ... and just how dis we stack-up to some of these teams ...

My format was as follows: Team/Total HRs/Players with 20+/Players with 15+(not including the 20+)

Bos/137/0/5
Cle/161/3/1
Hou/203/4/3
NYY/185/3/2

Was/181/4/0
Chi/187/5/1
LA/183/2/4
Az/169/2/0
Col/156/3/1

Then there is us..(AZ was a surprise too)

SF/101/0/1 ..... nobody at 20 or over and one at 18. As a matter of fact we only have 4 in double digits and 2 of them are at 11.

I'm not sure you can compete at today's MLB level without some real EWS capability. I'm not sure any level of pitching alone) could survive in this environment. I'm not sure our 2010, 2012 or 2014 staffs could have survived with this 2017 offense behind them.

End of Rant ...

The offensive jump in the last two seasons has been staggering. While I'm not completely dismissing the argument of the changes to the baseball, the sudden increase in power (I don't remember what, but there are some metrics that make the Roided 90s look tame) smacks a lot of what happened in the 1990s. If I remember correctly, one of the theories being thrown around, before performance enhancing drugs took the forefront of everyone's attentions, was the baseballs being tinkered with. Just like now, MLB denied any changes. The whole thing seems fishy to me. Maybe the sudden increase in pitchers getting blisters confirms that the baseballs have been altered but is that really all there is to explain the sudden and large jump in offense?
