Offseason question: What kind of deal should the Redskins give Junior Galette?

This doesn't have the chutzhah of Sam Bradford's agent demanding a $25M-per-year-deal for his client before he played a game this past season after sitting out the last two with torn ACLs. But it's something close. Gallette's had some well-noted off-the-field issues (which has earned him a suspension already) and it's completely uncertain what type of player he'll be coming off that torn Achilles. You'd think that he'd be eternally grateful to the Redskins for not only giving him a second chance last season before his injury, but another second chance this year. I guess not.

One potential wrinkle in this is that the agent representing Gallette is the same one representing Scot McCloughan.

The fact that the same agent represents both Scot and Galette may work to the team's benefit. Can't see the skins overpaying here. They have more leverage given injury and off the field issues.

You either pay a veteran.. or draft a rookie and hope he works out.

If we dont resign Gallette, then we might not get to take advantage of the deep class at D-line because we draft another OLB in the first instead.

While I think $7-8 million is a bit pricey. If its a deal with incentives, and we can take a D-lineman in both 1st and 2nd round if the talent is there... I wouldnt be upset.

And we have Kerrigan and two part time players. So I dont think we have 3 decent OLBs. We have one good OLB and two guys that leave us predictable as fuck on defense. Just saying.

He had an entire season where he COULD have screwed up on the behavior angle... and didnt. While I actually agree with you that $7-9 million straight up is crazy, going into another season with a run stopper who cant cover, or a pash rusher who sucks at stopping the run because we dont want to pay a guy who can do both is a bit short sighted.

I think Im higher on Smith than most I think he's really good. And while they can make us a little predictable their at least both decent NFL players. We wont starve at the position wiithout Gallette.

But $3 million base, and the other $4-5 in incentives would be more than gravy for this team right now. It would allow us to look at the draft without being predisposed to taking an OLB when what we really need falls in line with the deepest talent pool in this coming draft. Would you rather be some what forced to reach for a starting OLB in the first, or have the flexibility to use the 1st and 2nd on the deepest D-line class in a very long time??

Resigning Gallette MIGHT let us fix the D-line for starters and depth for the foreseeable future.

Sorry dude, but some one who averaged 11 sacks a season as a starter is far from ass. Murphy is heading into year three and lost his starting job to a guy who couldnt cover my grand mother. I agree Gallette has some questions about his past, and we might even have to wonder IF he can stay healthy at this point. But hands down he would have been better than either Smith or Murphy. Both are rotational/depth players at this point. And if healthy i would much rather have a complete player across from Kerrigan, which neither of them are at present.

I dont want to give up on either player. I just want what gives the team the best possible roster on the field and the best flexibility going into the draft. We been through this before. Its the reason WHY we drafted smith in the first place. Because we DIDNT have a possible complete OLB to play across from Kerrigan. And it was mostly because we were so damned scared we might over pay Rak. Well the reality is, if we can get Gallette at $3 million base, with incentives... we WONT be forced into drafting another OLB when the strength of this draft is actually in the D-line. I never said give him $7 million up front. But for $3 million plus incentives, we are a fuck-ton better off then relying on Murphy who got benched, or Smith who can rush the passer but is rather questionable when it comes to being a complete OLB in a 4-3. We have two depth OLBs and a starter... we actually NEED another starter. And if Gallette can stay healthy, he is damn sure a starter.
