He "slept on his eye wrong" was the claim. Not long after that he was traded to San Diego in the Kevin Mitchell/Dave Dravecky deal.

He was in the Gulf, but he died in Houston. Suspicious fire in a house he owned. Popular theory was that he set it. Died a few weeks later.

I remember Whitey made a point of pointing out after the game that for all of Rog's complaining the Giants ended up getting the tying run to the plate in the 9th. He said something like "I would have told him not to run if Roger promised me t he y wouldn't score any more runs"
