We have tons of cap space and could use a better stable of RB's, especially after Green-Ellis....

Not saying we would ever do it because I know we are cheap and they do not like to introduce new elements this late...and the cost would be great...but imagine our RB combo of Jones-Drew and Green-Ellis. Jones Drew is also perfect for our system and a great RB who would not disappear in the AFC North.

I was thinking like a 1st and 3rd with the 3rd being conditional on performance maybe being able to move up to a 2nd.

MJD is great, but I wouldn't give up anything more than second rd pick for him at the absolute most. More likely a couple of 3rds or a 3rd and 4th..

He's 27 and he's averaged over 350 touches per season the past 3 yrs. Plus he's going to want a huge contract

I agree. Given the steep contract you'll have to pay him, I wouldn't give up more than a 2nd or 3rd.

we live in Cincinnati (or at least I do), and the Bengals are the team here. Mike Brown is the owner. This is reality, it is not Madden 2012. They think BJGE can do the job.

They would want more than a 1st and 4th.

Mike Brown can't do it, he'd have to sell one of his mansions.

Oh, I am keeping it real. I have no thoughts that in reality it would happen, but that doesn't mean it isn't what we SHOULD DO, and to think where this team would be with a back like Drew who would take that much more pressure off Dalton, and with Green-Ellis here, Drew wouldn't have to touch the ball 350+ times a season either.

I'll go out and say it's not what they should do at all.

The guy is going to want a 3-4 year mega deal. He's already got a TON of tread on his tires. Chances of him finishing out the next 2 years without injury are close to nil. I'd be shocked if he's able to make it to 30 in this league with his wear.

Well, that is what a good complimentary back like BenJarvus - Green-Ellis is for. You don't quite split the load, but you make it like 50% of the snaps for Jones-Drew, 35% for Green-Ellis, and 15% to all other backs, saying of course all stay healthy.

I think the way Jones is built, his low center of gravity, the fact he seems to be getting better as he ages, I would not be concerned on a 4 year deal for about 40 million.

This is WCO offense, where two backs is almost a must even though we only have one right now really worth a crap. It is a lot of short passing high accuracy and a decent amount of running at 55% passing, 45% running plays. Both may be closer to the 50% mark depending on the game and what each team takes away from us, but I don't see it being an issue, because he would not be used nearly as heavy in our offense as he was in Jax.

If this organization was about winning it could happen, but, this organization is about pocketing NFL profits while attempting to guilt Hamilton county residents into coming out to support a business that doesn't keep it's word.

So you're going to take an unhappy back, and tell him he's going to be going from the focal point of the attack to a split-carries guy? Yeah, he'll be thrilled to be here.

Not only that, he's still going to command a Mega contract to be happy as well. You're going to pay the guy ADP type money to split carries?

This is a bad idea all the way around.

He is unhappy because he IS the focal point of the offense and not getting paid. He's not going to be pissed if you pay him (as he has proven he should be) and he is a RB in a WCO. Guys care a lot more about $$ than they do whether or not their the 'focal point' of the offense, especially if it will end up affording him another year or 2 in the league. I would have NO problem signing this guy for 3 years.

But this is the Bengals, we don't go after FA, so the point is moot.

.

the career trajectory for many (i would even argue most) top-flight RBs is that they're spent a yr or two after their peak. It's very possible that MJD only has one or two great seasons left, and he'll hit a wall soon after that...

if he were a FA I'd roll the dice on a 4 yr/40 million dollar deal, but when you factor in trade compensation I'd be careful of what I'd give up for a RB with that much tread.

Disagree. Dude just wants to be paid. I doubt he'll be happy going to a place where he can't get paid.

I know I'll be in the minority, but the reality is: He wouldn't want to be here unless he's the MAIN back and he's getting PAID. That's what he wants. I don't think he's pissed at all for being the main guy now, he just wants to be paid because he knows with the amount of carries he's had, the chances of him getting another big extention/contract after this current one is about nil.

His owner is threatening to trade him to the Bengals if he doesn't cooperate.

Also, another thing I read from somewhere: If Mike Brown is so against trading guys holding out (historically and not the norm as with palmer) do you really think he would help another owner trade a disgruntled player? He's probably calling the owner now telling him to stick to his guns and don't make a move.

Damn, he probably gets paid to give advise to cheap owners.
