Not exactly sure where they got the cap space all of a sudden since they are always bordering the cap edge, but they were able to sign Haden to a 3 year deal worth 27 million with 7 million guaranteed this year. Haden has not been great the last couple years, but he will certainly upgrade the Steeler's crappy secondary.

No kidding. Butch Hobson is going to be shocked by this.... How are they ever going to pay bonuses and injuries?

Haden was tough against us early in his career. It's all about what he has left in the tank..... Assuming Cleveland is now competent at making decisions (what an assumption that is), you'd have to figure he doesn't have much left. Why else would they let him walk?

Word is he was being outplayed by an UDFA.

At 28, history of injuries, it's easy to see his best days are behind him. Though, and a zone heavy scheme, he can still probably make some plays, but I don't think he can match up 1-1 with top tier WR's anymore. That's if he stays healthy. A big ????

Steelers have always been near the edge of the cap, but since they have finally discarded most of the dead money from Woodley, and Troy P and the like they have kept a decent cushion...lot of money in the OL, but aside from Brown, not much @ WR.

Haden had a rough 15 season, last year was much better but only played 13 games....whatever level he's at now from his peak form...65-70%?...he's better than Cockrell and the Steelers know Ben is not forever so they roll the dice.

Given his injury history of late, I'm guessing (hoping, freakin assuming actually) they have a 1 yr out that's not too painful.

I hope the hell not...he played Antonio Brown man up in the 1st game LY...held him under 100yds...FWIW Brown was asked his thoughts and he felt he was still among his toughest defenders.

Regardless, PIT knows they're not getting a Pro Bowl, but hopefully they got a legit CB2.

We'll see. The question really is: How much have the injuries taken out of him?

As we've seen often with some of the Bengals' players, the best ability is availability, and some simply struggle with that. Haden has the past few years. We'll see if he can remain healthy, and how much he has left in the tank.

I think health more so than loss of skills, he had 3 ints and 11 PD last year, that's better than Cockrell...I'll be curious to see what other CB comes on the market by the weekend. The Steelers rarely make moves of this magnitude with a short term primary objective, but they needed to take this risk.

You said it best...we'll see.
