One last thing: he'll probably only count about 1 million toward the cap with the inevitable suspension that comes from being a fighter on the Flyers.

I'm blaming him for this.

Sign him up and give him more than Giroux and Leino!

I wonder if Homer did this because the Canadiens were taking runs at Giroux and the Hawks were taking runs at Leino? What do you guys think?

meh. i guess. snider does not like seeing his guys being knocked around. although if they are not afraid of pronger, carcillo, asham, or hartnell, why would they be afraid of him? this is not the old nhl.

They definitely were the smaller team throughout the playoffs, save for the series against the Smurfs. Nobody could handle Byfuglien outside of Pronger, nobody could get in on the forecheck and disrupt Seabrook or Chara. Everytime they show the Game 7 replay, you can't help but notice how many times Powe (bless his heart) went in full speed on the forecheck against Chara and ended up taking the worst of the collision. Seemed like it happened every shift. The smallest of the guys (Meszaros) they got today is 6'2'', 220 lbs with time to grow a bit more. Maybe even topping out at 6'2'', 225 lbs. O'Donnell is massive at 240 lbs, Coburn is still 6'5'' and actually realized this late in the season, and Shelley can disrupt just about anyone on the forecheck. He's an energy guy. If I remember correctly, he was on the 4th line with Anisimov and Prust for the last 2 games, and they were getting ample ice time because they caused so many problems for the Flyers' D with their size and hustle. He's expensive, but I'm fine with him being Powe's replacement. As long as Nodl or Testwuide or someone who can kill penalties takes over for Asham.

I came over to this thread to go on a tirade about this despicable move, but after reading this post, I realized it said all.

Excellent post Chris.

Oh and Gag's -- "Cote 2.0" comment was dead on also.

Hopefully theres something in his contract that he can be cut or something? This deal makes no sense to me at all. When I heard they signed him I figured he was going to play on the Phantoms

That's not in anyone's contract. All contracts are guaranteed.
