12:53pm: Chamberlain's deal is worth $2.5MM and contains performance bonuses, according to Olney (on Twitter).
12:33pm: The Tigers have agreed to sign right-hander Joba Chamberlain, according to Ken Rosenthal of FOX Sports (Twitter link). Yahoo's Tim Brown tweeted yesterday that Detroit was a potiential landing spot for Chamberlain, and ESPN's Buster Olney reported today (via Twitter) that the Tigers' interest was "serious." Chamberlain is represented by Jim Murray of Excel Sports Management.

Yea I get it. I am not thinking Joba pushes Detroit over the top and to be honest their was about 3-4 other relievers I would have liked to see Detroit sign but hey it's only 2.5 million.

It's not like he is getting a Carl Pavano type deal.

Joba is not much more than a middle innings eater & bullpen space filler.... literally and figuratively.

its a good gamble signing, for gawd sakes they still have Coke on the MLB roster, he can't do any worse than him.

Coke's fine as long as he doesn't face righties. However, Leyland never got the memo.

wait, maybe it was AA thats still on the roster, either way, Jobu already moved the bullpen up a few notches.

Will be interesting to see if the Tigers have a strong core who won't tolerate his self-centered antics.

He's the ultimate tease, in that it seems like every season he ends with a pretty dominant stretch, and you think he may have turned it around and can carry it over into the next season, and then he just gets shelled to start the next season.

What that means, I have no idea...but I fell for the tease every year.

Phil is actually less awful against righties. He's still awful, just not quite as awful. He's pretty awful in general.

He struggled against lefties this year (.760 OPS allowed, but righties had an .860 OPS against him in 2013), but lefties have a line of .241/.294/.347 against Coke throughout his career. .298/.373/.435 for righties.

I never said he was. But he'd be a lot less terrible if he wasn't facing righties as often as Leyland let him.

Woulda liked it a lot more if Ol' SmokeChops hadn't let him face anyone last year. Unless we were up 8 or down 6 anyway. Extra innings... "Hell, Ill bring in Cokie!". Guys hit almost .400 off him with runners in scoring position last year. Check out his ERA splits.... Hes a reliever.... most o those runners arent even his.....Ughhhhh..... I coulda went another day without thinking about Phil Coke. (If anybody gets Al New Mexico in my head Im gonna be pissed). Thanks guys.

I hate all present, former or future Yankees, except Babe Ruth, so there's that.
