Jeanty is a great player don't get me wrong, but offense has not been the issue for the Bengals. And even the running game has been decent so this to me is a pick of luxury for a team that doesn't have that right at this time. When you look at the actual mock draft and see the next I think 6 picks all being defensive guys I just picture what it could mean to have another pass rusher to actually help out the defense or a CB that could cover somebody.

I'm 100% with you. The Bengals need defense. However, the way we draft, not sure we will find that guy necessarily, but worth the risk. Jeanty has a floor as high as a regular probowler, with a ceiling of Barry Sanders/Walton Payton/Emmitt Smith realm. That is a sure pick as long as he stays healthy. Plus he provides someone other than the defense to focus on besides Burrow could help protect him a little.

With that said, we need defense, I say depending on who is on the board and where we pick at the time, we need DE/CB/S.

Also, with that said, the Bengals need veterans with quality production in this league. If you can round out some starters on the cheap like Jeanty, you can still fix that defense to top 20 with a few veterans. As bad as this defense is, it is really only missing 4 extra players on defense.

We need a quality DE to go opposite Hendrickson, we need a good DT to help rotate with Jenkins and McKinnely, we need a CB to pair with a healthy Dax Hill and DJ Turner who both got hurt at the beginning of the season. We need a veteran safety with a few good years still left in the tank to QB the secondary. We need a new defensive coordinator.

So with a much as Burrow, Chase and potentially Higgins may make, you need to offset offense with affordable talent around them. Jeanty is a superstar in the making, and if you can get a superstar for 5 years at a rookie contract that will take the heat off your QB, it may be an option. I love Chase Brown, but he would be one hell of a complimentary back, one of the best 1-2 punches in the NFL with the best QB-WR-WR combo in the NFL. Lethal. Just need the front office to figure out how to obtain those 4 guys once t he new DC is announced.

Pass.

Brown has been very good.

The issues with this team go WAY deeper than needing a RB.

There are likely to be a few edge options, and that DT from Michigan may also be around...I would LOVE to pair him back up with Jenkins at DT, grab a few of the expected edge players still available in round 2, and then go WR/DB in round 3 or maybe even IOL....

Just too many needs at higher value based positions to really focus on RB...

I don't disagree. Just making a case since the article presented it.

I get it.

The guy is a "generational" type talent at RB...

But Brown has been pretty good, and quite frankly - if they upgraded the IOL at all this off-season, Brown will be even better. Part of the reason the run game is stuck is because the IOL just doesn't get any push.

Burrow is going to get 60-65% of the snaps/plays, so it would seem a bit of a waste to spend such a high round pick on a guy that, may not be as good if they don't upgrade the IOL, on a team that already has a RB that has been 6th best in the NFL over the past few weeks, and since he's insertion to the starting lineup, in Points Per rush, and with so many other needs.

When it comes to value based positions, RB has just really fallen off the cliff over the past decade. You still want a good one, but you don't really "need" a "great" one anymore. DL, OL are major needs at this point, and I think where the focus of the off-season F/A and draft should be.

we need a heavyweight RB goal line smasher that is versatile enough to block and receive, but the good ones are few and far between, so we usually just use tight ends for that, except that none of them usually carry the ball. Hudson could though.
