The Redskins were 15th in yards given up and 16th in points given up. We would have killed for that last year.

Lets look at some other teams. Everybody here loves Minnesota. :D:noidea: The gave up 18 less points than the Redskins (1.1 per game) and 700 yards less (40+ yards per game)

KC gave up 62 more points and 800 yards.

Just saying ….

We were also 29th in DVOA for the year.

That tells me we were actually a pretty damn bad defense that got lucky a fair amount (think Bucs game - red zone snaps leading to missed FGs etc).

I understand who we did not have last year. I am simply pointing out that the D was better this year.

To add to my last comment. We were actually 16th in DVOA in 2017. Now maybe its not your end all be all metric (which is probably smart), but it is probably a lot more accurate than PPG or YPG

Gruden deserves to be back so this is good.

My concern, however, is that he is now a lame duck coach.

I doubt he can survive another sub 8 win season and I dont see how this roster is going to have the talent to get to 8 wins next year.

The onLy stat that really matters is winnng.

That's good stuff coming from you gk with all your AS hate. Been stating that fact for a long time.

6-4 before injury and 2-0 in the division...but, but, but...

I'm OK with Jay coming back. Continuity of the coaching staff is important. Something this team at least in that concept, has tried to do.

You seem to misunderstand. From a team aspect, winning is the only stat that matters.

TBH, you and I could have QBed this team through nine games and we would have had six wins because we were running over people and few could score.

On an individual basis, AS did nothing in 5hose victories except hand it to AP.

In terms of results it's all that matters.

But not in terms of predicting future performance or in measuring a player, coach, or QBs ability/performance.

No, I didn't misunderstand the importance of the stat of winning. But you, on the other hand?...LOL

Alex brings intangibles to winning football games in the NFL...8 consecutive years and counting along with that 99-66-1 career WINNING record.

and, "TBH, you and I"...LOL @ you gk, LOL.

That's nice that he has a winning record and all but he's not actually very good.

In fact I think it's a bad thing if Alex Smith is your QB. Hes the definition of QB purgatory.

There's a reason both of his former teams eventually moved on for higher risk higher reward players.

In SF, Alex has 33 more wins than the QB who replaced him since he left. In KC, that was the right move for that team...that kid is awesome!

Sure. But that's not a good way to measure whether he's a good QB.

And while Kaepernick didn't work out for SF, it was still the right logic driving the decision. Smith is not a QB who can win you games and that's a problem.

Yes...he hands the ball to HOF RBs and league leading backs like nobody else. He also encourages the defense like nobody’s business.

Did anybody actually fear KC last season? Hell no. They are nervous this year though.

Yes that record is impressive...so is losing your job to Shaun Hill and some other no name in JT OSullivan.

Seriously? And that doesn’t even bring to light his coaches dropping him for two other unknowns in CK and Mahommes.

Look up the facts...he wins with a top five run game and good defenses. When he didn’t have those, he didn’t have a job because he can’t win you games. He can hand it off and cheer on a defense though.

According to Mitzi...Alex Smith is better than

Drew Brees
Fran Tarkenton
Warren Moon
Phillip Rivers
Ken Anderson
Carson Palmer
Dan Fouts
Boomer Esiason
Jim Plunkett
Sonny Jurgensen
Joe Namath
Billy Kilmer

The list goes on.

And Otto Graham is the greatest ever.

So, in essence, Billy Kilmer huh? :D
If so, yikes, we have the wrong Allen in this organization!

"intangibles" are very important. so is leadership.

surprised you didn't know that from your time in the Military. bottom line, it's about leading and winning.
