Brandon and reed are both SS in the box thumpers. Brandon has some coverage skills to him. reed does not. Like him as a true redskin, but we can NOT put him in situations outside his playing ability. Meaning little to no coverage responsibilities. So what we truely need from Rambo and Phil is one of them to step up and claim the FS spot.

The FO will almost have no choice but to draft a Safety in the 2nd round. Merriweather is awful and is good for a 15 yard penalty each game.

Hatcher only started one game in his 1st five seasons. He's got more left in the tank than most 31 yr olds.. as evidenced by last season. And he dominates Philly and NYG. This is great.

Guys... seriously. Helps the Skins, hurts a division rival both on an on field and a deeply emotional level. Aside from the deal being a wee bit heavy... whats not to like??

He also dominates us so it's nice we won't have to deal with that anymore. Saw he had 8 sacks in the division last year which is more than orakpo had in his career (wtf orakpo).

I agree, and I know it is unlikely to happen, but what are the chances of DHall playing some FS over the next few years. He has went on record in saying that he would like to do that. If we could still sign a good CB that could be an option this year or next. Not saying it would happen, just thinking out loud. The young guys are going to need more than this year.

I really hope they don't though unless Pryor or dix falls to them. Unlikely. Don't really want them to take a safety much rather a WR there.

Not happy with this signing, it looks like we're chasing washed up guys. He may benefit having Kerrigan and Orakpo around him. Our D-line is still very questionable

Skinem... have to disagree. He is 32, but hardly washed up. He led his team in sacks. And has been pointed out, he is a low mileage 32. In theory we just vastly improved our pass rush from the front three, and queitly should be assembling a pretty good D-line rotation. Get the feeling Bowen will be reworked for cap space if needed. BUt reports are he is still very much in the Skins plans as well. Now if we can get any type of production out of Jumpy the 4th then our defensive line could be very formidable.

This is incorrect. Doughty can cover inside 15 or 20 yards, what you don't want is for him to get isolated on a WR on deep route. Most who complain about Reed remember when he had to fill in at FS and got beat deep a couple of times.

Mixed emotions about Hatcher. I never like picking up an ex-Cowboy. Hatcher never had more than 4.5 sacks in the 3-4 or at all before last year. Certainly increased pressure can make our existing DBs better. We will have to wait and see. It's good for all those who have been waiting for name recognition signing.

the longer this sits, the more I see Merriweather and Doughty back. Which im not totally against. If Merriweather is healthy and gets his head on straight, he is a good safety. Appears we are taking a front to back approach on the defense... stock up the line, get good to decent LBs and corners.. roll the dice a little at Safety. Dont matter if the safetys can cover for 7 seconds if the QB only has 3 seconds to throw the ball.

This is kinda what I'm thinking too. The FO may already know that there isn't going to be a stellar safety to be had, so they're going to try to take the pressure of whoever eventually lands that spot.

Let's wait abd see how the money works and stop complaining about getting better.

I for one think the team is attacking free agency the right way. Not necessarily filling all our holes...but we arent over paying for players at a position of need....just to fill the hole. We are adding mostly low cost mid 20 guys for depth. Filling out the team. We still have Philip Thomas who was impressing at camp last year before his injury. We still have the draft.

As of now...this team is better then we were just a couple weeks ago.

In my opinion of course....

Except Hatcher...32 years old with one good season and not in the 3-4 mind you...that's an overpay.

Yeah, I have a bit of a concern over this one, but have yet to see contact details. 32 is getting up there. He may have 2 good years left. I hope there isn't a large guaranteed portion that we have to eat right at the time we need to resign RG3. I'm not as concerned about the one good season. In the 3-4, he was in a different role so you don't expect a DE to put up big numbers, but eat up blockers and provide a push to free up the Wares and Orakpos to wreak havoc.

Notice I said we arent't overpaying for player"s" and said "mostly". He is the one exception...well him and the og from cleveland is a bit of a overpay...but not bank breaking. None of these contracts put us in a hole.

JJ Watt had 20 sacks from the DE position in the 3-4 and there are a number of other double digit sack guys from the position.

There are different versions of the 3-4 that ask the DE and Nt to do different things. If I had JJ watt, I'd scheme to get him free, also. Dallas had ware who they wanted to be the main pass rusher, thus hatcher's job was to eat up blockers as a primary responsibilty. Similar to what we ask of our DL.

Hatcher was much better in the 4-3 as a DT than as a 3-4 end. The Skins overpaid for Hatcher just like they did for Bowen. Hatcher is also 32. A typical Snyder FA.
