Phillies acquire Realmuto in trade with Marlins

Phillies have acquired arguably the best catcher in baseball.

Still way too early to tell how good they'll be, depending on the Harper/Machado/Neither/Both (extremely unlikely) situation.

Braves offered a better package earlier in the offseason and it was turned down.

Bunch of cocksuckers in Miami.

Was nice to be relevant again even if it was just for a season, but an apathetic ownership group and front office has 2019 looking like being back to 4th in the division for the Braves.

You can say that again. How that team didn't get moved and got a brand new ballpark, I'll never know.

They bought a pair of World Series and they have been irrelevant since.

It's like they are not even trying to win.

i'm curious, who did they offer up better than sixto? I'm disappointed he was moved for JT, I'll admit he may be the best catcher in baseball, but that's not saying much.

Honestly, they’re such a badly run organization, and there’s so much bad blood with the fans and city, that I would move the Rays there and send the marlins to a new site like Vegas or Montreal or something

Very good pickup for Philly here, I think they'll be a team to watch in the NL east in 2019.

Behind the Mets even?

Nice acquisition but I can't help thinking he got a bit overrated due to all the media attention he was getting.

I'd also be concerned about the 485 games he's caught over the last four years. That's hard on a player's knees.

I read that Realmuto was timed as the faster player in the MLB that wasn't a CF or MI.

Changing franchises does nothing but reward a bad operation with another baseball team. They should reconfigure the ballpark and let some college soccer team play there. Miami tried to get the league to bid against itself for a player whose agent fully intends to get him to walk after 2020, no matter where he goes.

The rays are a good operation in a terrible spot.

Give them a good city/market and a nice park....you might have something.

But

1) bring the fountain back

2) not having a dome/retractable roof is stupid.

this isn't about the Rays. It's about the city of Miami.

catcher's extremely thin right now and Realmuto has a pretty good argument for being the best at it right now. And for a team that's on the brink of contending for the playoffs, it seems like a pretty obvious move to make. They did have to give away a young catcher to do so, but I don't think it's very likely Alfaro ever hits to the extent that Realmuto did in 2018 or even 2016-17. Realmuto's still only 27 and has only started 483 games behind the plate (494 games overall) so I don't think there's too much wear and tear there. Marlins did get a very intriguing arm in Sanchez, but his numbers aren't amazing (strikeout rates aren't that good for a big pitching prospect) and you have to be weary of any pitcher after an arm injury.

Still don't think they're much better than .500 right now though.

He's such an asshole.

People always regarded him as a classy, leader. He was never classy, he was just quiet.

What's your opinion of the Donaldson one year deal? I found it a bit of a head-scratcher.

Only the yelich deal was probably a bad idea.

He had too much control to get anything less than a bounty
