Inspired by the NHL game I attended the other night, it’s time we spiced up college football OT. I’m not a huge hockey fan but it was so much more fun to watch a 5 on 5 version of OT versus a traditional 7 on 7. The scoring opportunities were all opened up and the game was even more fast paced.

I’d like to see experimenting with 7 on 7 in college football in OT and shorten the game into 3 downs. If the game is tied after 3 OT’s, we go to sudden death 45 yard field goals.

Ok but the rounds of field goals have to be all different players, just like the NHL shootout.

Why not a skills competition? Running backs compete in the 40, qb’s see who can throw longer, etc.

Sure, make it like the combine. Bring cones out on the field and all that.

Fat boys can do a good ole bench press and squat competition, really get those football juices flowing. So 7 events including the coin toss obviously. So coin toss, longest pass, fastest 40, squat and bench competition, and longest field goal/punt. Whoever wins 4 of the 7 events wins. Take that NCAA, the hoop just did yall job for you.

Just do Hail Marys every play. Each Team gets a chance to bomb it deep until one team converts. Each Team gets it at the 50. Alternating possession each play.

Let’s have some fun.

Make OT 7-on-7, flag football style rules (every player is an eligible receiver), but only linemen are allowed on the field. No skill guys. "Das Boot" beer chugging contest after 3rd OT.

Continue the game with a 5th quarter, picking up wherever the 4th ended.

Or

Close to what we have now, except the ball moves back to the 50. Now you have to earn the points.

Let's just do bull in the ring. Pick 3 players from each team to be the bull and the team that has the fewest concussions afterwards wins.
