I think Middle Tennessee State is in whether they win their conference tourney or not. Can't see them missing out with 6 losses (if they lose in the tourney). Conference USA could have an argument for 3 teams, even though I know they won't. Middle Tennessee State, regardless, Old Dominion and Western Kentucky. I think Western Kentucky needs to get over Old Dominion, in my opinion, because WKU has that win over Purdue, who is right now, a top 10 team.

3/2 recap

A quick Big 10 recap: Purdue and Michigan State fought off "the peasants", Nebraska now has to play the waiting game, and WAIT A MINUTE! Is Penn State about to force it's way into the NCAA party?!

That question will be answered later tonight, but let me look at yesterday's action first:

Tournament games:
Missouri Valley Quarters:
Bradley over Drake 63-61
Loyola-Chicago over Northern Iowa 54-50; will meet Bradley in semis
Southern Illinois over Missouri State 67-63
Illinois State over Indiana State 77-70; will meet SIU in semis

Southern 1st Round:
Citadel over VMI 78-70
Chattanooga over Samford 89-79

Horizon 1st Round:
Green Bay over Detroit-Mercy 93-81
Cleveland State over Youngstown State 72-71

MAAC Quarterfinals:
Saint Peter's over #1-seed Rider 66-55
Quinnipiac over #2-seed Canisius 72-69

Big South Semis:
Radford over Winthrop 61-52
Liberty over UNC-Asheville 69-64

Ohio Valley Semis:
Murray State over Jacksonville State 70-63
Belmont over Austin Peay 94-79

WCC Opening Round:
Loyola-Marymount over Portland 78-72
Pepperdine over Santa Clara 85-69

Other big games:
Davidson over Rhode Island 63-61
(This result is BIG. For now Rhode Island has lost it's last 2 games. And if the Rams lose again in the A-10 tournament, bubble teams everywhere will NOT be happy.)
Yale upsets Penn 80-79
Harvard over Cornell 98-88 in 2-OT's

March 3rd (Part 1: Non-tourney games)

As usual, ESPN is over-hyping a Duke-North Carolina game today. But besides that, let's find out what is on during this, the last Saturday of the CBB regular season: (All times are Eastern)

West Virginia @ Texas (12:00) (So let me get this straight, ESPN. Oklahoma is now only 18-12, and you're saying they're a "lock" for the NCAA's. Hey! Maybe the Longhorns CAN get into the NCAA's too!)
Kentucky @ Florida (12:00)
Virginia Tech @ Miami (12:00)

St. John's @ Providence (12:00)
Mississippi State @ LSU (1:00)
Clemson @ Syracuse (2:00) (This could turn out either really good or really bad for us.)

Alabama @ Texas A&M (2:00)
Baylor @ Kansas State (2:00)
Stanford @ Arizona State (2:30)
Creighton @ Marquette (2:30) (Marquette's making a late push for an NCAA berth!)

Notre Dame @ Virginia (4:00)
Kansas @ Oklahoma State (4:00)
TCU @ Texas Tech (4:00)
Oregon @ Washington (4:30)
(Much like Marquette, Washington's "Senior Day" will be an important one.)
Louisville @ NC State (6:00) (Like Washington, Louisville is fighting for their NCAA lives today. Unlike Washington, the Cardinals has to do it on the road.)

Arkansas @ Missouri (6:00)

Nicholls @ SE-Louisiana (6:00) (The Southland title is on the line here.)
Colorado @ Utah (7:00) (Utah's on the bubble, too.)
Wyoming @ Boise State (7:00)
Butler @ Seton Hall (8:00)
Nevada @ San Diego State (10:00)
UCLA @ USC (10:15) (HUGE game here; the loser of this could most likely get thrown out of the NCAA picture.)
UC-Davis @ UC-Irvine (10:30 (The Big West title is on the line here.)

And it doesn't end there...

3/3 recap (Part 1: Games that mattered)

Nd played well today but came up short. looks like it's going take a conference tourney title to get in

So Notre Dame fell short against Louisville, and will have to go on a run in the ACC tourney to get in, eh? Well, so might Syracuse. Yes, they won against Clemson yesterday, but so did almost every other bubble team!

Therefore, I'm dividing this recap into 2 parts. Before I get to the touranments, let me list off the teams that did well and who did not... WITHOUT any fancy scores:

Teams that did well:
Xavier:
Congrats, Xavier! Just don't trip yourself up in the Big East tourney, and you'll have your 1st-ever #1 seed!
Oklahoma State: Like I said, if you're gonna allow Oklahoma into the NCAA tourney, why not put in the Cowboys too?
Texas: Same as Oklahoma State.
Providence: Rodney Bullock helped saved the Frairs' bacon against St. John's. Now they need to win a game at MSG, just to be sure.
Texas A&M: They're at 20 wins right now. You never know!
Marquette: Great way to close out the Bradley Center, guys! ...You still have some work to do, though.
Missouri: They seem to be OK right now.
St. Bonaventure: The Bonnies are on a 12-game winning streak right now... and looking good.

Teams that might have just screwed themselves:
Michigan State:
After that loss to Michigan, the Spartans might have lost their shot at a #1 seed.
Penn State: On that note, Penn State now has to play the waiting game for an NCAA berth after Purdue smoked them.
Middle Tennessee: With that loss to Marshall, the Blue Raiders now has to be careful in the C-USA tourney. One more loss like that, and they'll be stuck playing the waiting game too.
Mississippi State: Sorry, Bulldogs. To me, you are OUT right now.
Baylor: Same as Mississippi State.
Washington: Much like Notre Dame, the Huskies will have to go on a run in the PAC-12 tourney.
Louisville: Now they'll have to beat FSU to clinch a berth.
UL-Lafayette: They just suffered a upset loss to Little Rock. Now they'll HAVE to win the Sun Belt tourney to get in.

UCLA vs. USC - Game Summary - March 3, 2018 - ESPN And finally, they was this little beauty from L.A.

5 teams for 4 #1 seeds.

Not many bubbles to be burst. I remember the days the Colonial used to have multiple bids.

Realignment has ruined that a bit.

A team from the A-10 might win their tourney and sneak in.

Tuesday, March 6th

Just a little warning for the rest of the week: If you want coverage of the "major" tournaments (like in the ACC, SEC, or PAC-12), there are other threads dedicated to that type of stuff. Besides, if Syracuse or Notre Dame loses today, you'll hear all about it in the papers.
For everybody else, here's what's up today: (All times are Eastern)

SWAC Quarterfinals:
Jackson State @ Southern (8:30)
Mississippi Valley State @ Arkansas Pine-Bluff (8:30)
Alabama State @ Texas Southern (9:00)

Horizon League Championship:
Cleveland State vs. Wright State (7:00) (Just know that Cleveland State has 22 losses entering this game.)

CAA Championship:
Northeastern vs. Charleston (7:00)

Northeast Conference Championship:
LIU-Brooklyn @ Wagner (7:00)

Summit League Championship:
South Dakota vs. South Dakota State (9:00) (Two in-state rivals fighting for an NCAA berth... in their home state. Should be great stuff!)

WCC Championship:
Game of the Day: Gonzaga vs. BYU (9:00) (If BYU stuns Gonzaga here, we can wave "bye-bye" to at least one bubble team...)

I read about that and Cleveland State. Wouldn't that be something if a 22-loss team made the tourney? Got to think if they do make it they'd be a 16 seed.

3/6 recap

Geez... Just watched the video for Maroon 5's "Wait", and strange doesn't begin to desribe it. Oh well, at least I'll remember it.
Oh, sorry. You're here for basketball, right? Well...

NCAA bids being punched:
Horizon:
Wright State over Cleveland State 74-57 (Sorry, @tducey. There'll be no "Cinderella" Cleveland State in the postseason.)
CAA: Charleston over Northeastern 83-76 in OT
Northeast: LIU-Brooklyn upsets Wagner 71-61
Summit: South Dakota State over South Dakota 97-87
WCC: Gonzaga over BYU 74-54 (So no bid-stealing from BYU this time around. Man, the Mountain West is gonna get SO rich when Gonzaga joins that conference!)

Other tournament games:
ACC 1st Round:
Boston College over Georgia Tech 87-77 (Great comeback by Boston College. At least they'll make A postseason tourney this March!)
Notre Dame over Pittsburgh 67-64 (Almost... Notre Dame dodged a HUGE bullet yesterday.)
Syracuse over Wake Forest (And now the Orange play North Carolina tonight. It'll be big.)

Big Sky 1st Round:
North Dakota over Montana State 76-74
Northern Colorado over Northern Arizona 82-59
Southern Utah over Idaho State 76-68
Portland State over Sacramento State 71-67

MEAC 1st Round:
Florida A&M over Howard 88-78
North Carolina Central over Coppin State 60-48
Morgan State over South Carolina State 83-80

American East Semifinals:
Vermont over Stony Brook 70-51
UMBC over Hartford 75-60

SWAC Quarterfinals:
Arkansas Pine-Bluff over Mississippi Valley State 77-73
Southern over Jackson State 62-60
Texas Southern over Alabama State 90-76
Prairie View A&M over Alcorn State 87-71
And if any of you SWAC fans are wondering "Where's Grambling?", why don't you go ask their academic records, OK?

Wednesday, March 7th

Now for this busy Wednesday, I'll do it this way: I'll look at all the "small-school" tournaments first, and then if I have space left over I'll give you the BIG games from the major tourneys. So let's see this plan in action: (All times are Eastern)

Sun Belt 1st Round [From New Orleans, LA]:
Coastal Carolina vs. Texas State (12:30)
Little Rock vs. Appalachian State (Around 3:00)
South Alabama vs. Troy (6:00)
UL-Monroe vs. Arkansas State (Around 8:30)

Mountain West 1st Round [From the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas]:
Air Force vs. UNLV (2:00)
Colorado State vs. Utah State (Around 4:30)
San Jose State vs. Wyoming (7:00)

Atlantic-10 1st Round [From Washington, D.C]:
La Salle vs. UMass (6:00)
Fordham vs. George Washington (Around 8:30)

Southland 1st Round [From Katy, TX]:
Texas A&M-CC vs. New Orleans (6:00)
Central Arkansas vs. Lamar (Around 8:30)

Conference USA 1st Round [From Frisco, TX]:
Southern Miss vs. Florida International (7:00)
UTSA vs. UTEP (7:30)
Louisiana Tech vs. North Texas (Around 9:30)
Florida Atlantic vs. UAB (Around 10:00)

MEAC Quarterfinals [From Norfolk, VA]:
Florida A&M vs. Hampton (6:00)
Morgan State vs. Bethune-Cookman (Around 8:30)

Patriot League Championship:
Colgate @ Bucknell (7:30)

Major games to watch:
ACC:
Louisville vs. Florida State (12:00) [The Cardinals can seal an NCAA berth today! ...Or they'll die trying.]
Notre Dame vs. Virginia Tech (7:00) [Ditto for Notre Dame tonight.]
Syracuse vs. North Carolina (Around 9:30) [And of course, ditto for the Orange.]

PAC-12:
Arizona State vs. Colorado (3:00) [From #3 in the country to being on the outside of the NCAA bubble... Here's hoping they'll go on a run here.]

Big 12:
Game of the Day: Oklahoma vs. Oklahoma State (7:00)
[Honestly, I think the Cowboys are more NCAA-worthy than the Sooners right now. Will Trae Young fix that problem tonight?]

3/7 recap (AKA: More hand-wringing over bubble teams)

Important games:

North Carolina over Syracuse 87-69
Louisville over Florida State 82-74 (And with these first two results, Louisville looks to be IN and Syracuse appears to be OUT. S--t.)
Oregon State over Washington 69-66 (Okay, Washington is defintely OUT right now.)
Colorado over Arizona State 97-85 (And despite this loss, ESPN still has ASU IN?! How does THAT work?)
Oklahoma State over Oklahoma 71-60 (Mitch Sherman, a ESPN staff writer, is now thinking that the Big 12 will get 9 teams in the NCAA's after this game. )
Oregon over Washington State 64-62 in OT (Maybe Oregon can squeeze their way into the NCAA's.)
