It's time to change the puck over the glass rule - As puck has stated before (and I agree), treat it the same as icing (face-off back in the defensive zone and don't allow any player changes).

In yesterday's game (in overtime), Travis Hamoic is passing the puck out of his own zone to a teammate and the puck clearly hits the top of the glass before going out of play. The refs somehow miss this fact and give Hamonic a delay of game penalty. The Sharks score on the resulting powerplay.

Can you imagine if this decided a playoff series?

Douggie Weight tore the zebras all new ones after that debacle.

While I do think the rule is better than pre-lockout, I think it should be like like illegal defense in the NBA - fist offence is a warning, any subsequent ones result in a minor.

This of course doesn't solve incompetent zebras - they need an off ice official specifically for things like this - a ten second delay to check the replay - if it's clear as day, overturn the call, if not, uphold it. This isn't rocket surgery.

I saw Hradek tweet something last night about the Isles getting boned on a bad call, now I know what he meant.

That said, I don't mind the penalty so much.
The glass is friggn' 10 feet high now. These guys should be able to at least hit it.

And it comes in especially handy when playing Buffalo in the post season.

Yeah, most penalties where you are placing the puck in the wrong place or from the wrong place (offsides, icing) have always been about faceoff location and re-setting the play. So, in that sense, I agree with you and this doesn't seem like it's in the same class as charging, elbowing, tripping, etc. I also don't recall that teams flipping it over the glass to stall for a time was an issue before this penalty was invented.

Between the bad calls and the fact that most (if not all) the time the player committing the penalty has no ill intent, it does seem like a silly minor penalty.

Somewhere, Trueniners head exploded. The Sharks got a favorable call against the Wings (Holmstrom) and against the Isles. Perhaps the refs forgot that the they were supposed to be against the Sharks and let the other teams foul them with no repercussions.

The Sabres also got hosed last night. Matt Ellis scores a goal, and they say he kicked it in. Ellis was battling with a Panthers player near the crease, and the puck went off the side of his skate, and then hit off his other skate before going in.

I can't find a video other than in this link:

NHL.com - News

Video is titled: FLA @ BUF - 9:59 of the First Period

I saw about 4 or 5 disallowed goals in the Hawks/Jackets tilt. Not sure how many were legit or not.

that's exactly it.
Icing = shooting the puck out of your zone to relieve pressure. whistle, and bring it back. make the tired guys stay on.
clearing over glass = shooting the puck out of your zone to relieve pressure. whistle, and bring it back. make the tired guys stay on.

if the refs want to have discretion to call delay of game on an obvious shot sideways into row 30, that's fine.

Terrible call last night for sure. Watching on the fly there were actually a lot of questionable calls as well, but I think this one takes the cake. Isles fans deserved better than that. Hasenfratz, LOL. How many times now have I mentioned how he sucked in juniors and I still can't believe he made it to the NHL. Guy is always fucking up.

I just hate that as a penalty. How often is a guy trying to actually send it out? Never. Needs amended in some regard.

I have to say that the War room got all four right.

First was a high stick (above crossbar) - Hawks
Second was Disallowed because Wiz got smacked in the chops with a high stick just before it went in - Hawks
Third was a distinct kicking motion - Hawks
Fourth was a distinct kick - Jackets

Both of the kicking motions the players were trying to kick it to their sticks and just missed.

I was actually surprised they called the one where Wiz got sticked back. Usually don't see that.

I haven't seen anyone shoot the puck out on purpose since Hextall and Ranford used to do it all the time. I could do without the rule, or change it to like icing as was suggested. I hate it less since it stopped being about just picking on goalies though. That really bugged me.

The fact they missed the call is the problem. They should be allowed to review it.

I'd agree with that. Especially considering the amount of TV commercial breaks taken (seems to coincide often with PPs), just call up TOR real quick, or heck, do it in house. Doesn't take long to see it.

I agree. A lot of people dislike the penalty which is understandable, but even if it was just an icing and the Sharks won the faceoff and scored right away it's still the same situation. A goal off a missed call. It would have taken 20 seconds for the replay judge to see that it did hit the glass and let the refs know. Time that was already spent when the refs huddled and still ended up getting the call wrong.
