Geez, pretty nice career numbers for Butch:

375 goals, 513 assists for a total of 888 points in 1107 games played. Oh yeah, and a few Stanley Cup rings.

boss I went to my very first LIVE Canucks game in 81 vs the Isles and saw all of the above we got smoked 5-1 and I loved every second of it thats when I saw Billy Smith.. and knew I was a goalie at heart forever. jesus I can still smell the old Pacific Coliseum from that day, I can feel the crisp cold and will always remember seeing the players live for a first time. I was 11. god damn that was awesome

Sounds like the first time I saw the Habs great 76-77 team (I still think the best team ever) you never forget it matt and it's a thrill !!

Can't forgot Butchie...

He was a huge part of it dash. Didn't he wear the same helmet his whole career? great role player and PK specialist it seems like all great teams need "that guy" on the roster to be a great team. Much like Gainey with the Habs. Edit: Jarvis was his partner on the PK, I couldn't think f his name for a minute. Excellent PK pair.

Very valuable player for sure.

It was a great run back then. I first became a hockey fan after the Miracle on Ice. I'm the only member of my family that isn't a Flyers fan. I became an Isles fan during the first Cup run. I found out Ken Morrow was on the Isles. After watching Mike Bossy a bit the Isles became my team for life.

Al Arbour knew they had the talent, his biggest concern was he felt they played tight. Arbour said Goring was exactly what they needed. He told jokes & kept his teamates loose. Al said it took Butch some time to get in shape. He really wasn't in shape until the following season. It didn't matter though. They won right away anyway.

I don't have high expectations for this years team. I'm just enjoying the ride.

Those bring back the memories.... Seems the Isle got swept under the rug a bit when Gretzky hit the scene. Bossy was my man, before the Devils hit the scene of course.

i wouldn't hate if the isles made a run. certainly better than the pens, bruins, rangers, leafs, or habs making a run..

One problem, Streit & Boyes might not be back.

Streit wants 5.5M per for three years. The Isles offer is 3 years 5M per.

Come on Dabolts, I said live in the here and now, not 3 months from now. You can cross that bridge when you come to it. Besides number 91 is all that really matters.

Streit is a pretty valuable player to the Isles, or any other team. I'd love to see the Sens sign him in the offseason.

Boyes? He's easily replaceable. I think he's benefitting greatly from who he plays with.

i believe if the Isles move to brooklyn all of a sudden you have a desirable location for players to sign in as UFA. they can live in New York and have that great lifestyle and play for an exciting team.

Lots of talk that the Oilers are looking to bring Streit on board as one of their bold moves...

They would be crazy to let Streit walk, too valuable to this team.

Anyway glad to see the Isles back in the playoffs!

Scary to think the Isles and Blue Jackets make it and a change of no Red Wings.

I took my CFA exams in the Coleseum... it was sooo damned hard not to daydream, and reminisce on all of the memories from that building.
You couldn't take beer to your seats (at the hockey games, not the CFA exams), so between periods there was a massive rush to the basement, where there was just enough time to drink 2 per intermission if you kind of chugged the last one. :suds:
