Chipper played until he was 40 and was productive right up until his last AB. Of course, he became more of a slap hitter than a power hitter the last few years.
Dude signed his contract in 2016 and immediately quit juicing.

Babe Ruth hit 41 HRs when he was 37 and 34 the next year, but he was clearly on a slippery slope down at that time.Chipper played until he was 40 and was productive right up until his last AB. Of course, he became more of a slap hitter than a power hitter the last few years.
Oh yeah...heya Yapp!!Some call me Doug, some call me Jorge but you will remember me as Yapp
Even if he was 100% clean (which I doubt). That is an absolutely absurd contract to give out to a guy his age. I get that Illich wanted to win one before he died, but that's just a bad deal.
Bonds
Ortiz
Thome
And Ortiz declined significantly from age 32-34 then magically had a second prime at age 35
never failed an MLBPA sanctioned test
I was talking about Chris Davis, but you're absolutely right.
Miggy's contract is atrocious. If I remember correctly, they extended him a couple of years before free agency, too. Just completely stupid, but that's Dombrowski for you.
It's up there with the contract Ryan Howard got from the Phillies.
never failed an MLBPA sanctioned test
also, he didnt "decline significantly" from 32-34
he didnt have to. he admitted it on national TV.Neither did A-Rod.

now do ortiz.
on an MLBPA sanctioned test?Unlike A-Rod, Ortiz actually tested positive for PEDs.
We will find out later this year with machado/harper both expecting big contracts but they are younger so will only be 35 in 10 yearsI think the trend is going to go away from giving these big bashers big contracts. The stars are going to be the guys who both hit for power and play good defense and will stay in shape.
The pitchers still will get paid, but the days of absurd long-term contacts for the 1B/DH types are about to be a thing of the past.
on an MLBPA sanctioned test?
when?
unless you mean that leaked test where guys "failed" for non banned substances? littany of info on that at you fingertips.
"the pats videotaped the rams" too right?
ive always said ortiz took something like thome, bonds, etc.I don't care that the test that Ortiz failed wasn't MLBPA sanctioned. Shit, the fact that wild dopers like Clemens, Bonds and A-Rod never failed an MLBPA sanctioned test erode those tests' credibility.
The fact that he failed any test, coupled with his career trajectory and the era and location in which he played is more than enough for me to assume Ortiz took PEDs.
It just amuses me that someone would defend any professional athlete against PED speculation in this day and age, particularly a guy like Ortiz. So, when the topic comes up, I like to bring you into the mix.
I don't give a shit what the Pats do.
ive always said ortiz took something like thome, bonds, etc.
im just saying he never failed an MLBPA test. which is true.
