Putting Terry Collins on the hot seat already seems a little silly. Most Mets fans think the team is still a year away because of their offensive limitations (and perhaps, defensive question marks). Everyone pretty much agrees that Collins is an average tactical manager, but is well-liked by players and has gotten a reasonable performance from the teams he's been handed over the last couple of years.

Really, it's team OWNERSHIP that Met's fans would like to see on the hot seat instead IMO. Alderson has done a decent job of rebuilding the farm system, but the Wilpons have hamstrung everything because of their lack of financial resources. As a result, the Mets need to depend on guys like Cuddyer and Granderson to have big years instead of having a young stud or two to build the offense around. Until that changes, or some of the young position players in the minors pan out, Collins will struggle to produce a really consistent winner.

Collins is not the greatest manager, being a nice guy can only take you so far. If they are serious about making a World Series run I don't think he's the guy that will get them there. If they struggle out of the gate I could see him being dismissed.

I'd say, if they miss the playoffs this year he'll probably get fired.

He's on the hot seat. If they start out slow or underperform he's likely to get the blame. I'm not saying they need to make the playoffs but they need to be in the running for a wildcard in September. The bullpen may sink this team

The bullpen should be alright. The defense is the biggest flaw for this team.

I'm not sure about the pen but you make a good point on the infield D. I think the outfield D will be solid

They could do better at manager, but I have my doubts any manager would have had the Mets in playoff contention the last 4-5 years.

They jumped the shark when they added Shake Shack

No way, Shake Shack and the Big Apple Brews are fantastic. The entire Citi Field experience is as good as it gets at a sports venue, you know, aside from the product on the field.

Spoken like a true Mets fan :suds:

What can we say...:suds:

I'm taking my son to the April 30 game, that'll be the first time I go out this season, unless some freebies fall in my lap.

Nice! The Subway Series games are finally back to being on the weekend so I'll try to catch some of those. I'm actually willing to shell out some money to watch baseball this year!

Despite Terry Collins' often poor strategies the Mets will finish the first half over .500 and actually in a pennant race. Say it again: The Mets are in a pennant race. Sounds surreal doesn't it? It's been a long, long time since Met fans have been able to say that at the All-Star break. In addition the Mets are in thick of the
wild-card race. I know it's only the halfway point and there's no guarantee it will continue this way but their pitching is starting to give the Mets an edge very few, if any, can match with sharpshooters Harvey, Syndergaard, deGrom and Colon's offspeed stuff on the mound and Familia locking it down with his nasty stuff. A one or two-run deficit feels more like ten runs against that kind of pitching. And when Matz returns next month
it'll be like acquiring yet another ace. It's been a cockeyed road but the somehow the Mets are right where they're supposed to be.

And I will give Terry Collins credit for two important things that I always have given him credit for: His players play hard for him and they are a tight, close-knit group. Aside from the pitching, those are the biggest factors for the Mets current state.

I must say, considering what the Mets have gone through it's incredible that they are right in the middle of things. Wright pretty much out for the year, D'Arnaud pretty much out for the year, Cuddyer doing absolutely nothing, Duda and Lagares taking giant steps back from last year, the bullpen being in shambles most of the year, Wheeler going down before the season started.

The only consistent has been their starting pitching. If those guys can stay/get healthy they should stay in business. Need a serious bat in this lineup though. A bullpen arm and some bench help wouldn't hurt either.
