Great watching this Twitter tete-a-tete between Chris Russell and Rich Tandler regarding what tag should've been used on Kirk during free agency. Russell has been a huge proponent of using the transition tag, as opposed to the franchise tag, on Kirk. I think most of us here would agree that that's garbage. Paying $2M more for the franchise tag has basically given us the security we need in retaining Kirk and has allowed us the opportunity to negotiate the deal we believe is best with him. Russell's view is premised on the fact that a transition tag would allow Kirk to fetch a "market" deal, which we would then match. The problem with this hypothesis is Russell's assumption that the market will act rationally. That's certainly not the case in many instances, and, as we can all see with the deals getting done yesterday, there are some seriously irrational players that are overpaying for QBs and d-linemen in the current league year's market.

I don't follow these guys much, but from what I've seen from both of them, I think Tandler is the better analyst between the two. In fact, some things Chris Russell says are bat sh*t insane (e.g., suggesting the Redskins let Trent Williams walk in FA because he was injured and/or couldn't play well through injuries). This is just another instance of that.

their opinions aside ... i consider Russell our local version of Schefter when it comes to his sources in the organization.

I have interacted with both on twitter.

Russell is active and will participate in conversations ... but defends his positions too fiercely at times. Haz comes to mind.

Tandler on the other hand is a goof, socially, IMO. We had a twitter conversation about 2 years ago, on some unimportant topic, we did not agree ... so he blocked me.

I still hold a grudge. LoL.

Rich seems a bit thin-skinned and standoffish at times. Not surprising he blocked you due to a disagreement. But I think he's on point with his analysis. Not sure about his ability to gather facts and scoop others.

As for Russell, he does have some inside sources, and he is on point at times. But sometimes he's off -- and will go down like a jihadist in defending his point.

Also, I've seen a guy with the Twitter handle HTTR_24_7 of something like that. He seems to be pretty knowledgeable but opinionated. Also appears to be a RGIII supporter / Kirk basher, but maybe I haven't followed him enough to know exactly his views on either or both.

you're spot on ... couldnt have said it better.

the @HTTR24_7 dude used to host a web podcast. He is most infamous, IMO, for his involvement in the Redskins catfishing story of 2013

no clue who he is, but i would guess he's just some rich guy in Ashburn with friends in the organization.

I would refer to them as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum.

Russell would have to be Dum because that boy is a box of rocks. He was on that transitional tag from the git go. I don't think a lot of Tandler either.
