Jamaal Magloire remembers witnessing bullying firsthand from his high school days in Toronto.
“I wasn’t a part of it directly, but indirectly and whether I was laughing or not telling somebody of importance what was going on, I was still a part of it.”
It’s behaviour Magloire wants to help change as part of the Raptors’ support for the Be Bold: Stop Bullying campaign in Canada, which launched in Toronto on Wednesday.
The anti-bullying initiative has seen success in the United States, Latin America and Australia and Facebook has partnered with Family Channel, PREVNet, Concerned Children’s Advertisers, Kids Help Phone, MediaSmarts, Free The Children and STOPcyberbullying.org to bring it to Canada.
Magloire, a former Raptors player now working with the club as a basketball development consultant and community ambassador, spoke on Wednesday to the group that included 100 students about his experience with bullying and how they can make a difference.
