There is little doubt in my mind that the opinion of Jerry West was the final nail in Mark Jackson's coffin. West is the Dubs' Consigliere, and he obviously believes that inspiration has taken this team about as far as it can go.
Jackson is a cult figure among the players on a team with a cult mentality. To become champions, this team needs to be properly trained and all players need to be held accountable. This ain't a popularity contest; this is The Association where professionals are challenged to play with the proper combination of aggressiveness and control by the finest basketball minds around.
Jerry West has little belief that Mark Jackson would ever develop into one of those "minds," and I concur with his opinion. As there is no salary cap affecting coaches' salaries, I expect Lacob to go out (if he hasn't already) and get a "mind" that West can respect.
