Results won't come in until after 11pm tonight. So we'll probably have unofficial results just before midnightish.

I thought this was odd:

The cost to run the referendum is estimated to be $2 million, which Wang says he will pay, but only if voters approve the project.

Aside from the unusual ethical implications of such a promise, that's just bad PR by Wang.

The Mistake in the desert leeps chugging along, thrilling their fan.

But a team with actual history is getting thrown around. Flat out sucks. I sincerely hope they stay there.

With about 35 percent of precincts reporting, there were
23,919 "no" votes to
17,526 "yes" votes.

Still lots of votes to count

Yes, but they still haven't counted the poor parts of the county... where the median household income is only $81,000. ;)

Hope it passes! Fingers crossed for ya, Isles fans!

That said, the lease of Nassau goes through 2015, and that's plenty of time to get something done. Seriously, the Pens overcame obstacles just like this Bolts. It took mutliple tries to get Consol done. I just hope the same can happen for yunz in L.I.

#Isles owner Charles Wang at the podium: I have to tell you I'm disappointed and to put it bluntly, I'm heartbroken.

Meanwhile, Long Island (arena deal vote) trending in Canada. And not in New York area. Not much more to say.

Well here's hoping Queens gives Chuck a call tomorrow. There's also Willets Point I think. Chuck has some options, just not in Nassau County.

What's really sad is the only county in Long Island allowed to vote on this was Nassau because that's where the arena was going to be built. A lot of Islanders fans didn't get the chance to vote on this.

Chuck said he's HEARTBROKEN. I have no idea what he's going to do now. If he decides to sell the team Long Island has no chance of keeping them. There isn't anyone who would go through all the POLITICAL BULLSHIT that Wang has had to deal with.

Trust me on this the politicians on both sides are probably celebrating tonight. While every fan of the NY. Islanders is HEARTBROKEN!!

They got crushed :/ this sucks.

As stated before the abomination in phoenix runs free yet a team with true heritage can't even get a little bit of help from the league in keeping its head above water

Wang gets bashed a lot by the media & the fans. The truth is if he wasn't willing to take heavy losses on the franchise every year since he's owned it, the Islanders would have moved awhile ago. As much as they've bashed him the FANBASE does know this.

Bettman is from L.I.. I doubt he gives a rats ass though.

Anyone know if they're celebrating tonight in Quebec City?

I'm a little torn on this one...

I really want the Islanders to stay on the Island. That team has such a history, it would feel wrong for them to leave.

At the same time, I don't like the idea of public financing building stadiums.

What I don't understand is why did Hampstead reject the Lighthouse Project that was going to be privately funded? What was the objection?

Simple, the local politicians weren't going to get a lot of money out of it.

Word is the President of the Chamber of Commerce of Queens wants the Islanders. Brooklyn & Suffolk county are possibilities as well.

Yeah, but they could claim to have helped a huge development project that would bring entertainment and jobs. I don't get it. What a bunch of morons. That project looked awesome.

Sounds like the Queens want some Wang.

Kate Murray didn't care. The politicians were very quiet before the vote. Basically waiting to see what happened today. I honestly hope L.I. is now out.

The Islanders are now NY's team. Hopefully open for business to other areas near L.I..

I wonder how moving "neighborhoods" would work. I mean, Queens would be cool, but you would have to invade territory probably already occupied by a lot of Rangers' fans. Would they draw support in such a circumstance? If the Isles fans aren't going to games now, will many of them drive even further? I know the Caps were hurt initially when they moved the arena downtown, just b/c it made the drive that much farther for the suburban/Baltimore fans.

It's one thing to move a team to a new city that doesn't have a team or another part of the city when there isn't any competition for loyalty.

I don't know. It's an interesting and unique circumstance. At least they still have a few years to figure something out. Time is on their side...
