Is it almost worth the Giants not participating to know that the Red Sox, Yankees and Phillies will be home in early October, too... or is it just more painful because the road to a World Series just got a little easier for a 2010 Giants-like (Cinderella, if you will) team?

(Disclaimer: I think Doc has this one taken care of.)

I am ALMOST rooting for the Phils tonight. If they lose, who do we root AGAINST? All the "bad guys" will be gone.

A white hat is only needed in the presence of a black hat.

Are you saying without evil there is no good? The lack of the Phillies, Yankees or Red Sox in the play-offs could lead to a disruption of the natural order of life. A butterfly flaps its wings, and then we're all fucked... I may have jumped to conclusions a little bit.

No, you have it about right.

We are talking about the very fabric of existence here...

By the way, Gallardo on the hill for the Brew Crew at home. Any chance for our second favorite NL West Champions?

I'm rooting for the Cards. I don't care if there isn't a Goliath to root against in the upcoming rounds. Nevertheless, all of the following series would be fun to see:

1) Brewers-Cards (Rematch of 1982 WS)
2) Cards-Tigers (Rematch of 2006 WS)
3) Phillies-Rangers (Cliff Lee v. his former team)
4) Phillies-Diamondbacks (The ultimate David v. Goliath series possibility, IMHO)

I wouldn't mind the Diamondbacks going all the way. They are a band of misfits like the Giants were last year.

Yeah, I'll go ahead and root for La Russa's Cards because of his local connection, ARF and the fact that the Phillies are the NL Yankees. I will choose to overlook the bad blood between the Cards and Giants in the 1980s. It's about time, anyway. Ozzie Smith's been long gone from the Cards.

And Atlee Hammaker is nothing more than a cocktail joke for baseball nerds. The era for tolerance of everyone but the Dodgers, Yankees, Red Sox, Phillies and Padres is upon us.

Even the Braves got a pass from most Giants fans this year thanks to Brooks Conrad. The Marlins won't worm on to the hated list because Scott Cousins might never play another major league game, and their payroll has fluctuated from ridiculous to paltry so often that it's difficult to know if it's smart to try to buy a couple of championships every decade or so.

The Rockies have traded away some of their relevance, and the D-backs, as you stated, are a nice reminder of last year's Giants squad. However, Kirk Gibson is their manager. Fuck 'em. Stick the Pebbles and the D-bags on the hated list. Go Tigers!

Everything is going just right. First the 49ers beat the Eagles last Sunday only for the Philth fanbase to double dip in failure by also seeing their Phillies go down that same day.

You couldn't scrip this shit any better.

2009 - Philth lose in WS.

2010 - Philth lose in NLCS

2011 - Philth lose in NLDS

That would be an epic regression. Cards have to win tonight.

The only teams I can handle winning it all is the Tigers or the Rangers. The rest need to die their post season deaths.Phillies losing tonight would be golden though:third:
