if LA wants to take a run at the Cup, they need to sign Kovy. sign him now, and they have a small window before they lose a few core guys (it's gonna happen with doughty and johnson, just my opinion though)

Good point. Sign Kovy and do nothing else. Save that money for when your young studs ask for it next year. I would say that is decent management and nice look into the future.

If we are talking salary dump from the Kings, Brown makes 3.175 and is a good number for what you get. Simmonds makes 0.821 no way to replace him for less than that.
Ryan Smyth makes 6.25 and would be the one the Kings could get rid of for money reasons. Handzus makes 4 mil and is an option.
Kings as of today are 12 mil under the cap.

For the first time in a long time I am hoping good things happen. I worry that Kovy will cost the team the ability to keep the players together. I think they over paid Kopitar and having two huge contracts will limit them later. I was worried about 8 mil for 8 years. 10 for 10 could cripple a team if the cap every really goes down.

I also worry that the Kings have missed in signing any UFAs. They have been so focused on Kovy that they missed picking up a Dman. There are some in AHL that could take the #6 spot but with O Donnell leaving they need a #4 guy.

I am hearing rumors again with the Flyers and Gange and/or Carter, if Kovy falls though. I think Simmonds/Brown might be in the talks as well as Quick. Sorry but I don't think the Kings can trade Bernier. He has done nothing yet, but the team has been selling his potential for years. Now is the time to cash that in.

I must say I like Simmonds a lot. I had a discussion with Luc Robitaille (I won a contest to spend a day with Luc) in Jan of 09 about our favorite young player (other than Doughty) he picked Purcell (ha) I picked Simmonds. Later I got to spend a little time with Simmonds and Purcell and talk with them for about half an hour. I like both of them as people as well. My wife liked Purcell more I think, until he told a bunch of people at a meet and great that she was a Ducks fan.
