What else is he going to say; "My goal here is to be a middle of the pack team in the East and maybe get to a finals one day"

Every new owner or GM or coach makes that same statement, including Burke when he first got to Toronto. I know you all are excited and everything, but it's not like this guy is just going to wave his wallet around and make a Cup contender appear out of nowhere. Darryl Katz, who is also a billionare, made the same claims when he took over the Oilers. How have they been looking since then?

Well as a life long Buffalo sports fan I hope he is being sincere.

Like the one poster said we will have to wait and see but! Pegula is a Sabres FAN! and he has suffered as a Sabre fan along with the rest of us, that was obvious by his emotions today. Galosano never saw an NHL game before talk of him buying the team started and I was never sold on him and said so from day one.

When the Regis bought the team it was an investment we all know how that worked out.

The original owners were Buffalo FANS and treated the team as such we had good competitive teams back then.

Let us poor bastards at least have some hope. When Ballsy was trying to buy the Yokes he was treated in most of the media and message boards like the hero that would save the world, move the team to Hamilton and life would be grand. People also constantly said "He is a hockey fan"! That's great and so is Mr Pegula.

Us Sabres fans want to feel that way about Pegula. Give us a year or so before pissing on our parade.

I know you've never been a big fan of Golisano Boss, but I think he did a pretty good job.

He may not have put the effort into winning that we would have liked as fans, but he did a lot to ensure that the team got back onto sound financial footing to ensure that the team wouldn't go anywhere.

And to his credit also, there were reports that an anonymous person (*cough* Balsille *cough*) had offered to pay $70M more than what Pegula offered but without the stipulation that the team stays in Buffalo.

For your sake Boss I hope he is too. I have seen so many owners make empty promises in the past, it's hard not to be cynical seeing these press conferences. The only reason I am concerned is you seem to be very high on this and would hate to see you and Sabres fans get hurt yet again.

I know a couple of Oilers fans. The day Katz took over it was almost the same thing. "He is a huge Oilers fan! He will spend whatever he needs to to bring the Cup home!" etc. Now the guy won't even pay for a new arena, trying to get the government to do it for him and his team is depending on hope in the future.

I'm very happy for what Golisano did and appreciate it, but the point I was trying to make is there is a huge difference between a rich person or corporation owning a team to make a profit or has a sincere passion for the game and winning.

MLSE is a fine example of this, as I have said a thousand times I have Canadian roots as well and like my cousin (A Leafs fan) has said a hundred time's "MLSE could give a shit about winning as long as they can charge as much as they can and get the corporate money to buy overpriced seats at the ACC their happy". "They will throw the Leaf fans a bone every now and then and they're happy"

I will be interested to read the comments in the Toronto Newspapers about this sale, I would think you may find a lot of negativity because of the hate they have for us now, how much would they hate us if the Cup was paraded down Delaware Ave. before Younge St.? Just a thought.

Sabrefan BTW I don't know how many people realize this but the Sabres were NOT for sale. Pegula approached Golisano about buying the team. But you're right once word got out another interested party inquired. They will not say who but the new owners had to agree to keep the team here and with Pegula that wasn't a problem because he never had any intention of moving them in the first place.

Hey i'm not getting any younger BandW. It's good for me to get excited every now and then. Esp if I can do it without the help of Viagra. :)

I know what you mean and no offense taken brother. I didn't intend to offend you as well.

The issue with the Oilers is incompetent management, and a shithole city that no F.A.'s want to go to. Ownership can fix half of that by canning Lowebellini. Katz is also notoriously a huge asshole to deal with in any of his business ventures, so there will be no charity as far as the Oilers (or anyone) are concerned.
The issue with the Sabres is that past owners slashed every expenditure that they could legally get away with, including a pretty impressive scouting staff. Management and coach in Buffalo are fine... they just don't have the player assets. competent scouts and a developmental program can fix the hell out of that. (see Vancouver's prospect growth in the past few years as a prime example)
I'm sure you are well aware of toronto's ownership / management / coaching issues.
