.... since Super Bowl XXIII where Joe Montana drilled John Taylor for the winning TD with just 34 seconds left in the game. I actually woke up today more depressed than I was last night. This loss definitely was a kick in the balls!

I have a video of that Super Bowl. My tape ends with Breech's field goal taking the lead. In my world that pass to Taylor never happened. Ah, editing................

*Fun Fact: The endzone that Dalton got sacked in for the walk off Safety? Same endzone as Montana to Taylor.

* - not really fun. Fuck that endzone.

The pass to John Taylor should never have happened if Lewis Billups had manned up and caught the interception... he was in perfect position and the ball just went through his hands..... I knew we were done, giving Joe Montana a 2nd chance.....

What really made me mad other than losing Geno for the Season or giving up a safety to end the game was how the coaching staff tried to force the ball to Sanu, who was clearly struggling, instead of going with Marvin Jones who would of had 2 tds if Gresham wasn't a complete idiot. Seriously, the play was already past him why in the Hell would he grab the defender? Why?! Or if Dalton wasn't one of the worst QBs in the League and didn't throw the ball behind him on a quick out. Everything about that game was just terrible! From the coaching to the execution by the players. The Miami loss last Season started the Bengals on a 4 games losing streak and I can honestly see the same thing happening again this Year.

Season is over. Gresham needs to find a new team in the off-season the guy blows too many stupid mistakes for a 4th year player. Hope they don't make that asshat an offer to stay.

Yeah no doubt this loss stung, and it only got worse after the game to hear Geno Atkins has a ACL tear and is out for the season. We still have a great team. Somebody is just gonna have to step up. WHO DEY!

If you turn the ball over four times on the road you're going to lose. It says a great deal about the talent on the roster that they can take that kind of game to OT.

The loss was understandable so it didn't phase me that much.

Atkins injury is devastating. Arguably the most valuable player on the team and unquestionably the best player on defense.

I know Rey Maualuga is an unpopular player on here, but he might have more value to the run defense than people expected

The Bengals struggled last season in pass coverage when they sent 4 players after the QB. The pressure would eventually get to the QB, but by the time it did, due to the weak pass coverage units, the pass would be out for a completion. I recall this stat from before we brought Crocker back around Week 8.

On the flip side, this season the team has been much better at getting pressure just sending 4 players, and I believe our pass coverage has improved since that time.

However, now with Atkins out, I foresee a big drop-off in our defense the remainder of the season much like we saw in the first half of last season. With Atkins out, we're going to need to send more players after the QB to get that same pressure, and hence fewer players in coverage. Take Hall out of the equation and I foresee an anemic secondary in coverage.

Per PFF, in the 1st 25 minutes of the game, the Bengals registered 1 sack, 1 hit, and 2 hurries. In the final 35 minutes without Atkins, the Bengals registered 2 sacks, 1 hit, and 2 hurries. So with Atkins, we were getting pressure ever 6.25 minutes of game time, and without every 7 minutes of game time. And this does not consider the fact that our offense had the ball for almost the entire 3rd quarter. Nor does it account for teams changing their game plan to double down on Johnson or any other player.

Marvin Jones was hurt during the week with a messed up shoulder. Same as Sanu. The difference was, when Jones caught that ball and ran for 50 for a TD before the Gresham holding call, he dove for the endzone and hurt himself worse.

He was limited the rest of the game, along with Gio who hurt his ribs.

When you are missing your best blocker on the line, your #2 WR, your best RB, and your defense is going down like horny teenage girls, well, it was destined to be a rough night.

Dalton's interceptions sucked, and they were on him (minus the Sanu pass).

I didn't understand the play call on 3rd and 10 just before our 54 yard FG. We do not run the ball, which is okay I guess (not running time off the clock or making them use their last timeout), but we align in a formation that only has two receiving options for Dalton. For shit sake, spread them the F out and give Dalton 5 options to throw to, including a couple shorter underneath routes to at least keep the clock going and make the FG attempt shorter. Instead we line up with two receivers and then try for a bomb to a guy who was clearly covered.

Bad bad decision by Marvin and Gruden there. Not sure how all those dropped passes change the game, but all of them were big plays that would have been 1st down conversions that led to punts, or a turnover in Sanu's case.

This was one of the worst played games all around that I have seen this team play in a long time, minus Gio and Nugent. Outside those two, it was poorly coached and poorly played by everyone. You can tell our DL struggles already without Geno in there in that second half.

We don't play that many great passing offenses the rest of the way.

B-More x2 -- They've struggled on offense this season. Not the same number of weapons as last.

Cleveland -- Playing their third qb of the season.

SD -- Rivers is playing well again - Not as formidable as some of those past SD teams though

Indy -- Luck is great, but they don't put up big numbers. Now Wayne is gone.

Pitt -- Haley and Ben have not been a big hit together

Minny -- Ha ha

The loss of Atkins and Hall is going to hurt - But I think the D can still patch together some nice efforts with limited personnel. It will once again come down to whether or offense can put up points.

SD and Indy both have QBs that you don't want to give time to consistently, especially on 3rd down. It may be more methodical, but they will extend drives and eat up TOP. The nice thing though is neither team is too far away on the schedule. Whatever our game plan on defense will be going forward, there won't be too much film of it by that time.

I agree about everyone else.

we need to beat Cleveland, MIN, and get at least one from balt/pit, that way we can do our annual go to the playoffs and be one and done again, then all will be right with the world.

So that is great for the regular season, but it does not bode well for the playoffs yet again.

Again, don't panic. That lost was a major kick in the balls because it was so easily winnable in spite of the fact we had 4 turnovers.

Anything can happen in this league. We beat a good Lions team on the road... a tough Bills team that basically dominated us on the road. When was the last time we had those types of wins?

The true test of this team is next weekend. If they go into Baltimore and protect the football, we win. Baltimore is not good. Cleveland is the only team that concerns me in our division.

Buck up. We are in for a tough ride but this team has shown it can play with anyone and lose to anyone... so has every other team in the league. And don't give me any shit about the Chiefs. Who have they played yet that has a record over .500? Broncos might be the only team.

We know this team is different. Just sucks we have the same coaching staff (except for Zim) and Andy needs maximum protection to play well.

Believe.

Gilberry is going to play more 3 Tech to back up Thompson and Peko and I would even start Gilberry at 3 Tech and bring in Thompson...Use Harrison and Hunt to back up Johnson and Dunlap.....We need 1 more guy...By the time we play Bmore Boley and Rey M should be back.....Whit will be back HOPEFULLY but Collins can hold it down....Jones should be healed HOPEFULLY Gio is ok by then...should have had his ass in an oxygen tank for the weekend...lol But if we are already sliding Gilberry inside on pass downs he will play more 3Tech with Thompson Burfict, Rey M and Boley will man down the LB's with Vinnie and Schaeffer...WE NEED 1 SERVICEABLE GUY and we can make this work...Gilberry as long as he is healthy will be a force inside with more plays at 3 Tech...You heard it here 1st!

and by the way this loss had me disconnect from football more during this season than I have in past years... I detoxed from NFL Network.... It would be nice if they moved the games to Friday night...say 8 or 830 tip...that gives teams 1 more day but Thursday games are brutal to players bodies...

Put the loss in perspective:

Baltimore loss to Cleve.

The Saints got beaten up by the Jets, who got blown out by the Bengals just a week ago.

While it sucked, it was just too much to overcome. Short week, beat the hell up, riding the high of Dalton's streak, which had to be snapped at some point (I mean, he's not Brady or Brees out there)...factor in bad games by the OL, WR, and DL/LB in the 1st half and most of the game...and you combine it all together...in the end, it was just too much.

Sucks, but I don't think it is as bad as everyone thought initially. Chances of all those same groups playing as poorly again in the same game is slim. Well, until the playoffs... :) LOL
