Make sure you enable iCloud and the Find iPhone/iPad. If it gets lost or stolen, it will allow you to find it online via GPS
Go buy Applecare in the next 30 days ($99). Works for two years and replaces the iPad if broken in any way (as long as there are pieces left). i.e. you're prepaying for an iPad 5 today.
