I mean that seems over the top for a basketball team that is never any good.

Men's basketball is one of few revenue generating college sports. Nebraska is finally investing money into the basketball program via better coaches and facilities that are key to recruiting talent. The jury is out on whether it will pay for itself with a regular ncaa tourney caliber team, but they weren't going anywhere without the investment.

Schools used to just rely on just one sport to pay the bills, but title 9 changed a lot of the dynamics of operating budget. Men's football, baseball, and basketball are where the money is to help fund the rest of the athletic department. Nebraska built a new baseball complex in early 2000's and it's time for the basketball program.

Yeah the arena will help in the short term, but if they keep there losing tradition it's not going to help for long. I can't remember them ever being in the NCAA tournament or ever being in the top 25.

I am pretty sure Nebraska has been to the NCAA with Dave Hoppen in the late 1990s. I even think Nebraska won the NIT in the 1990s.(I could be completely delirous though) and I am too lazy to verify.

Hoppen was in the 1980s. Strickland was in the 1990s. Nebraska won the NIT 1995-1996 season. Nebraska is a win for the opposition if Nebraska goes to the NCAA.

Tim Miles is changing the basketball mindset at Nebraska. Based on my complete lack of basketball knowledge, I predict Nebraska has a winning record this year and even upsets Michigan. ( just to start something, I could be right!)

I definitely expect Nebraska to become competitive (as in not finish dead last) in the B1G. The new arena is a nice bonus, but Tim Miles strikes me as a really good coach. If he can't bring you out of the cellar, no one will be able to.
