but once again, Gary Bettman shows his lack of understanding, passion, caring, call it what you will for the history of this great game by not getting Pat Burns in the Hockey Hall of Fame before he passed away.

Are you telling me that as NHL commissioner, you couldn't initiate and pass a motion to induct Pat Burns into the Hockey Hall of Fame this year? Who would object to such a motion? That paperwork would be approved and rubber-stamped faster than a Mike Tyson - Peter McNeeley fight.

It would have been a great moment and there would not have been a dry eye in the place. And that is the main reason why you are booed at every arena and every public appearance you make, Gary, because you just don't get it and you never will.

I'd rep you but apparently I have to spread the love around. Great post!

FUCK YOU BETTMAN!

The voters for the Hall this year sucked balls. I'm not sure Bettman has that kind of authority over the HOF. I'm not even sure he has that kind of authority over the NHL.

I would think as the commissioner he could have done it or at least proposed it.

Even if he doesn't have such power, all he has to do is throw the idea out there and I think all NHL fans would gain some respect at least. When you look at those who got in this year you have to think...wow, couldn't one of them wait another year for a man who's obviously going to get in, but is on his death bed, to get there while alive? It's ridiculous. We all saw this coming too...

If hockey wasn't such a kickass game I swear I'd never watch the NHL.

They are, right now, a terrible PR machine.

I was very surprised when Pat was not inducted. It would have been a perfect ending for him. :(

It wasnt a time issue, its just he wasnt voted in, correct? It sucks but I dont think the rules should have been changed or modified for Burns because he was dying. Would he have even wanted that?

I'm sure he wouldn't have wanted people to go through the trouble and all...but the time period has been waived (quite easily and without issue) for Lemieux (was it for Gretz and other's I assume?) just because they deemed it an honor...I think this was a very honorable situation. I can't say I know if he was up as far as time goes though.

Thats why I wondered if it was a time thing. If they wanted to waive the time period for him I would think that was nice and easy to do. However I think he was eligible this year and just not elected. Its sad, and I may sound cold, but if that was the case I dont think anything could be done. Not even sure it I think something should be done.

Actually, they talked about Pat Burns and the HOF on TSN tonight and while the entire panel agreed that he is a lock for the Hall, Bob McKenzie suggested that some HOF voters may have actively campaigned against Pat getting into the Hall.
