Morning gents;
I am still not ready to throw out my thoughts on the bowl game but because I am irritated and need to vent, I thought I would spew my crap on round ball.
I was tired last night and listened (half heartedly) to the Husker basketball game. Never in my past have I felt like I wish they would just pull the plug on a broadcast.
The 40 minute game seemed to last forever as we got drubbed from the opening tipoff to the final tic of the clock. Ohio State obviously has a good basketball team, but our team appeared to have stayed home. After the 71 to 40 final score I just had to listen to what Doc was going to say as I was thinking he was going to come out and spit fire and brimstone over the airways.
To my freaking surprise he came out and made some of the following statements which infuriated me and caused me great embarrassment.
1. He thought our player never quit and fought hard throughout the game.
He asked Pavelka what he seen or should I say, he stated "I thought our guys gave effort the whole game and never quit, I don't know what you guys thought from watching it from over here but I thought the effort was there. Pavelka never made a comment. (NOTE; it sounded like Pavelka wanted to pull the mic plug throughout the game and had a hard time making things sound like he was glad to be there.
2. Doc said (regarding the initial possession of the game which set the tone)
"On our first possession we turned the ball over to them because we ran out of time without a shot attempt... and I don't think that was a bad possession... I look at it kind of like a punt in football"
3. Doc said he did not know when the guys who are side-lined due to injury will return but they will have to play sometime soon. They want to play but they just have to wait to see when they are ready to try.
4. Pavelka stated "The Husker were outmanned in the first half but in the second half we were only outscored by 7 points and yes, they (Ohio State) did play every player on their bench for much of the second half."
5. In the past, I have heard Doc say; "We don't spend a lot of time working on the opponents plays or studying our opponents. We work on our game plan and adjust to what they do as we are in game play"
I am not a basketball player/coach and not up to speed on how other teams practice, control or run their program, but....
Are you kidding me?
We are spending how much on a new facility and we have no-one in charge?
I was embarrassed just listening on the radio... If you listened to that game last night, you could hear a pin drop for much of the game, even their fans sounded like they left the arena and there were chants by what sounded like a handful of Ohio State student body... all 4-5 or 6 of them!
I know my wisdom in basketball is limited as I did not play college ball, but holy shit... I think Moe Iba's teams put forth more effort and were more exciting....
I like Doc but it's time for this University to pull the plug and pay some BIG $ to bring in a high profile coach to come in and shock and awe potential recruits with our new facilities and his experience. We are embarrassing the BIG TEN with our inferior basketball abilities.
Sorry for long rant... on round ball issues... but I had to vent...
