Morning gents;

I am still not ready to throw out my thoughts on the bowl game but because I am irritated and need to vent, I thought I would spew my crap on round ball.

I was tired last night and listened (half heartedly) to the Husker basketball game. Never in my past have I felt like I wish they would just pull the plug on a broadcast.

The 40 minute game seemed to last forever as we got drubbed from the opening tipoff to the final tic of the clock. Ohio State obviously has a good basketball team, but our team appeared to have stayed home. After the 71 to 40 final score I just had to listen to what Doc was going to say as I was thinking he was going to come out and spit fire and brimstone over the airways.

To my freaking surprise he came out and made some of the following statements which infuriated me and caused me great embarrassment.

1. He thought our player never quit and fought hard throughout the game.
He asked Pavelka what he seen or should I say, he stated "I thought our guys gave effort the whole game and never quit, I don't know what you guys thought from watching it from over here but I thought the effort was there. Pavelka never made a comment. (NOTE; it sounded like Pavelka wanted to pull the mic plug throughout the game and had a hard time making things sound like he was glad to be there.

2. Doc said (regarding the initial possession of the game which set the tone)
"On our first possession we turned the ball over to them because we ran out of time without a shot attempt... and I don't think that was a bad possession... I look at it kind of like a punt in football"

3. Doc said he did not know when the guys who are side-lined due to injury will return but they will have to play sometime soon. They want to play but they just have to wait to see when they are ready to try.

4. Pavelka stated "The Husker were outmanned in the first half but in the second half we were only outscored by 7 points and yes, they (Ohio State) did play every player on their bench for much of the second half."

5. In the past, I have heard Doc say; "We don't spend a lot of time working on the opponents plays or studying our opponents. We work on our game plan and adjust to what they do as we are in game play"

I am not a basketball player/coach and not up to speed on how other teams practice, control or run their program, but....

Are you kidding me?

We are spending how much on a new facility and we have no-one in charge?

I was embarrassed just listening on the radio... If you listened to that game last night, you could hear a pin drop for much of the game, even their fans sounded like they left the arena and there were chants by what sounded like a handful of Ohio State student body... all 4-5 or 6 of them!

I know my wisdom in basketball is limited as I did not play college ball, but holy shit... I think Moe Iba's teams put forth more effort and were more exciting....

I like Doc but it's time for this University to pull the plug and pay some BIG $ to bring in a high profile coach to come in and shock and awe potential recruits with our new facilities and his experience. We are embarrassing the BIG TEN with our inferior basketball abilities.:frusty:

Sorry for long rant... on round ball issues... but I had to vent...

It's a joke. They have a brutal schedule right now, but losing by double digits to the last 3 opponents is not acceptable. I don't care who they play, put a competitive team out on the floor.

Ok, I'm going to vent too. Thanks BRS!

1. Stop recruiting foreigner bigs.
2. Stop recruiting injured players other teams pass on.

I'm sick of hearing how we're injured...and realizing over and over, year after year, we are.

That's all. I'm fine with every thing else.

Play farm boys from Nebraska if you have to Doc. It might as well be Nebraska kids getting full rides and taking ass kickings instead of the collection of journeymen we normally see in uniform. I might have an emotional investment in the team, not related to winning games, at least to go on that way.

Nebraska just overall has the wrong philosophy right now. I've been watching college basketball all year, and I can promise you there are only a handful of teams that take the court with the same defensive intensity that our players do.

Here's the problem with that philosophy though.............it makes your players tired. I've been there before, done that before. I've played competitive basketball all my life since I was just a little feller...........when you get tired, it's really difficult to produce on the offensive end of the floor.......and eventually you will cave on defense as well.

If you look at the Wisconsin and Michigan State games, we controlled both of those games in the first 5 minutes...........but then what happened? We started getting tired. Those first 5 minutes we forced turnovers, scrapped for loose balls, and we still had our legs under us to make a few jump shots.

Ohio State was kind of a different story, beings that they made 11 out of their first 12 shots from the field............and they did it with a Nebraska man in their face on every play. But again, when you go into a game with the plan to just play hardcore defense, look how much that bites you in the ass if you play a team who just happens to be making 98% of their shots.

Last but not least, we have guys like Toney McCray who are good sized athletes..........and you look at him and you think "hell, he oughta be able to soar through the air like those other guys you see on other teams......"...........but he can't.........and neither can anyone else on our team. It's the reason nobody on our team was recruited by any other major basketball team.........because they don't have the physical tools to play with the type of guys that Ohio State has.

Oh, and one more thing........I agree with whoever made the comment about recruiting players from overseas. THAT makes a big difference, in a negative way. We have Diaz who is sitting on the bench right now with "chronic sore footness" and then we have Niemann out on the floor who has 4 points, 6 rebounds, and 25 fouls for the season. :L

I would like to take this time to personally apologize for my (above) outburst regarding the Husker basketball team and coach Sadler. My outburst was uncalled for and unjustified under the circumstances and for that I am sorry.

I would like to retract my earlier comments as they were baseless and filled with emotion due to my allegiance to the program. I hope this satisfies those to who I may have offended!

Go Big Red!

Respectfully;

BRS

LMAO.....

I didn't say a thing to BRS...........I agree with his post for the most part, and was seriously not making an attempt to bash him one bit with my post.

I believe Doc knows basketball........but recruiting is starting to bite him in the ass right now. I mean, you gotta realize how hard it is to recruit to a place like Nebraska when you had no facilities or anything to show for............those are the players we're working with right now.......the guys that we recruited to plain ol' Nebraska, with no facilities, no winning records, nothing.......

Something has to draw the kids to play for a historically unsuccessful program........and now we should see that increase in recruiting with the new facilities and stadium. If we don't see better recruiting in the next 2 years, Doc is gone.........guaranteed.

Now, to add to what I've said here, I am not nearly as disappointed in the basketball team as I am with the football team. The basketball team is seriously a bunch of Junior College level players..........and I feel bad for them. Richardson was the fuckin waterboy for the LA Clippers before he came to Nebraska for shit sake :L

Doc has done everything he can to bring players here, and it just hasn't worked out so far. Many of these guys (Richardson especially) go all out every minute they're on the floor, and unfortunately they are just not good enough to be playing at this level.

As for the football team...........I am furious with how we underachieved this season. The 9-4 record looks decent on paper, but ALL 4 games we lost were attrocious, and in no way represent what Nebraska football is. I can stomach a bad loss here and there, but when all 4 of your losses are terrible losses..........it's tough.

I had a short talk with Bruce at a Trade Show in Chicago back in October. I've been working on getting the HT Hackney on the outskirts of Knoxville to carry and market our product as a few of the other HT locations do. He was hired as a marketing specialist of some sort (still don't know what he does but that is besides the point) for this specific location.

Anyways, long story short, when we were done I asked him if he has a desire to get back into coaching. His answer was quick, "When the time is right". I was quick with "Nebraska has been a doormat for some time and someone like you could put a jolt in the program". He patted me on the back and said (no bullshit) - "I couldn't find Nebraska on a map but I'm sure I can get recruits to".

He's a damn personable guy, in the 3 or 4 times I've communicated with him.
