DrB has been predicting 6/90.

I think that is nothing more than his gut, but so far he has the 90M part right...

Good signing. Now to sign Elsbury to a similar signing. The outfield will be set for years

Then to work on pitching

And people scoffed when I said that he would get a *minimum* of 4/$60M, and that some team would offer him 5 years, back in July.

I think it's too long, but it wasn't my choice, was it?

To compete with the team down south, this deal had to happen. It's probably a year too long and a few million too expensive, but I'm happy that it got done.

He certainly set the tone for Choo and Ellsbury, both may get +$100MM deals now.

They would each cost the Giants their #1 pick on top of about 20M per.

Won't happen.

To be fair in July Pence was really struggling. He wasn't looking like a 5/90 guy. He got scorching hot at the end of the year and got himself 90M

Also, and we've been posting about this, LA has changed the game. We are simply not going to like the deals we have to do to keep up, but that's the plain reality of the game now.

Accurate prediction, but that doesn't remove him from the ever-growing group of overpaid outfielders.

Choo and Ellsbury are probably licking their chops right about now.

Dodgers' fault, man. ALL the players have the Lamborghini dealer on speed dial.

I figure anything under 20 mil a year would be kind of a deal. Someone was going to throw 20-21 a year for 5 years at him . I figure the Giants had to give that extra year but over the long haul they save about 10 mil over the lifetime of the contract. It was fair the Giants need him. Glad he is back'

Rock on Hunter Pence. Can I get a loan?

Go Giants !!

If it's a 5-year deal that's a whopping 18M per year. Damn

Well-deserved. Tried to tell some of you, but hey. Even I'm surprised. I thought it would be 4/60 or 5/70. Those who thought 4/50 are on crack. He was already making almost 14. Supply and demand. Supply and demand.

Free markets are the best thing for everyone.

I'm happy for the guy. He deserves it. And I'm happy for us too. In a couple years, the Pence contract is gonna look really good for the team as the salaries of players keep skyrocketing.

Would you rather have 5/90 or 6/90?

Hmmm...

Somehow I missed this one the other day.

Why WOULDNT I prefer 6/90 to 5/90? Same $$, more equity. If he sucks in year 6, it is essentially a free year (compared to a 5/90), so who cares?
