I keep looking at the numbers and I just don't get the $90,000,000 attraction. Him and his, errrr.... "oddities" do seem a perfect fit for the Giants though.

What do you think he is worth? His OPS+ has been over 135 in two of the past three seasons and he is pretty young for a FA, I think the deal is fair.

I don't love the deal for the Giants but I understand it. But you could certainly argue this was Pence's best year and not likely to repeat. On the other hand, the Giants FO has won a few world series so maybe they know something about roster construction.

I think his 2011 (.304/22/97, 139 OPS+) was on par (maybe better) with his 2013, so on that front, I think his 2013 may be repeatable.

They probably had to overpay somewhat to get him just for 5 years, so I would understand that part.

look at Pence's career numbers. how can you say this year was out of the blue for him? he's been pretty much a consistent player his entire career, minus the bad second half of 2012. the only difference is, he set his career high in homers for a season in the hardest hitters park he's called home in his career.

i was surprised to hear he got 18 mill, but i'm not mad about it. he's a good defender(though scary), he runs everything out, plays hard, and is a damn good clubhouse guy.

Considering Pence was better this season and Gyorko is nowhere near hitting the open market, I don't understand why you'd bring him up.
