I was surprised that he was pitching at all this year after getting shut down the first time.

The goal was to have him ready to pitch regularly at AA/AAA starting next season.

His contract is up this year, and he'll be super cheap to hold onto.

Yea not sure he will ever make it with the big club. Of course you can't foresee injuries and I feel for the guy but was never impressed with his stuff or command. If healthy he could have gotten the call in 2013 since that team was rolling out Safeco Joe, Harang and Bonderman at various times. More examples of brilliant roster construction. However Rendon was the guy I wish was the pick and would have preferred Bauer if they were to go with a pitcher

That is the whole burn. He was never a high ceiling guy to start with. But drafting is Jack's specialty...

I don't know, each year it changes, at first it was finding diamonds in the rough, then drafting, then player development, then building a team with little resources.
