Good stuff tz, thanks for the update.

A little pricey for my liking as well, but two things to consider: he was way underpaid last year.....and the Giants won the fecking World Series :D

Still, if it was going to be so steep in price, I would have preferred a 1 year deal.....but beggars can't be choosers right?

About 33-50% more than I was slotting him, but I refuse to disagree with ANYTHING the org does this off-season, so...

GREAT SIGNING!!!!

The only problem I have with this is that we have Belt ready and waiting. Huff showed that he can play in the outfield, but will he remain healthy as a 35 year old that is roaming the outfield? Overall though, I am in no position to judge anything that this suddenly brilliant front office decides to do. They get at least a year to do whatever they want without any fans complaining.

Bill Simmons (who is kind of a douche but entertaining and not dumb) wrote that if you are fans of a long suffering team that finally wins it all, you have to give them a 5 year break on complaining, calling for firings, etc. I think that's too high but 3 years is fair. The point of all the GMing and managing is to bring home a ring, and our complaining is basically saying (in fun because we know they know more than we do) 'no no THIS is what you gotta do'.

But they won it all, so for 3 years they get a total pass from me.

That said I like the move, and while the $ is a little high, it's not a LOT high (cough cough Rowand cough Zito), and let's face it none of us posting here know the market or what Huff's agent is able to get from other teams.

It's pretty reasonable for a guy who finished 7th in the MVP voting...

That's how I'm looking at this.

Not true, Nate. I've read no reports from any scouts that say Belt's absolutlely ready for the majors. He may break with the big club, but it's far from certain. If he pushes Huff out of 1b, then so much the better as Aubrey is comfortable in LF and even RF.

Nolan won't refrain from shitting his pants for 5 minutes, let alone 5 years.

Of course he won't. But it's all to get a rise out of people. I'm way past it.

Talk about a douche.

It is 2 years with a club option for year 3 with a 2.5 mil buyout.Making it slightly less than 10m a year:cool:.I was on board for letting him walk and bringing up Belt. But since they both can play LF I am ok with it.

Wow. Money scares me, but Huff was probably the best bat left on the market. Glad it's for 2 years and an option though. Just makes you wonder if Uribe is coming back at this point.

MCC is in full meltdown mode. "Too much money, ARRRGH!"

Usually the pant shitting doesn't start until FanFest, but it's starting early for them this year.

Great signing!!! Management is letting the players and fans know that it is serious about going for the repeat. The deal is short (2 or 3 years) and 10-11 million/year is a bargain these days considering what other free agents are getting. Relatively speaking, the Giants are not committing a lot of money here. When Belt is ready, the Giants can move Huff to LF. Also, Belt might be able to play LF.

What happened to that board Tid? Didn't that board used to be known as one of the best around?

ESPN used to be known as the best board as well, in the days of the HFs and Mules...

Now look at it.

Valid point. It just seemed like that board disintegrated overnight (McCovey Chronicles that is). I know why the ESPN board sucked so hard after the mass exodus. Did a similar thing happen to the Chronicles?

It's still okay sometimes, but a lot of the time it's a whole lot of Sabean hate instead of analyzing deals objectively. I mean if you don't like the move fine, tell us why, but most of them would rather use snark and fallacies to converse with you.
