How about trading down from 20 and getting those some of those guys you mentioned.

Trading down is easier said that done. Most every year people suggest moving back to get more picks and I like the idea just hard to really mock in my opinion. Easier to mock going up than down. Now say a QB falls like Mahomes and both the Chiefs and Texans get into a bidding war for his services then yes trade back, get the extra picks, and hope that one of the guys we wanted would fall. I do worry though that after our pick there will be a nice run on the OL players so I don't want to fall back too far to make sure we get the guy we want instead of having to settle for our 2nd or 3rd guy on the board.

Thanks for the podcast enjoy it.

I thought both your mocks made sense. I'd give edge to Nick because of 2nd round choice and while I'd prefer Mixon I like Perine for us.

Good points I just like to throw out scenerios on what ifs.

Just for grins

Say we could trade 20th pick for pick 34 and 66 this year and pick next year. Do you think we could bolster OL close to level of Cam or Lamp like you guys picked too much a drop off plus losing 5th yr option.

Hmmm some of that trade would depend on the other pick in 2018 of whether I like the trade or not. Yeah giving up that 5th year option should add huge value and that is trading up quite a ways. I think maybe one of the top-4 OL guys could be there at pick 34. The issue will be that you are getting the left over most likely of the 4. So if the Broncos have all 4 rated very closely then go for it but if they have one or two guys they really like more than the others I wouldn't go back that far.

Thanks good points.

Personally I do have all 4 rated pretty closely. All have things I like and don't like about their game. My order of the 4 keeps changing the more I read and watch the players. Right now Lamp is my guy in part because I started watching him back in November or so and had him as my sleeper player so fun to see now months later everybody saying "I love Lamp" and calling him maybe the best OL player in the draft.

Some of it depends on the day of day 1 production compared to actual potential of the player. To me right now Lamp has shown the most consistency and day 1 upside of the bunch. Overall upside would be between Robinson and Bolles. Both have a lot of things to work on though to reach that level. Ramczyk probably offers some of the best day 1 pass protection of the group but maybe not the highest ceiling.

If Denver signs King Dunlap would that change Denver drafting OL at 20 ?

It definitely makes the need that much less. I don't think it eliminates us from still taking one though. That 5th year option on such an important position on the field would be hard to pass up.

If we sign dunlap I think it raises the likelihood of Lamp, drops the likelihood of Ramczyk, and keeps robinson about the same (he can start at G and then move to T eventually)

Yeah the Dunlap signing to me is one that you still have to make sure to have a big time back up plan. He hasn't proven he can stay healthy any more than Tony Romo at this point. So I still would think the Broncos have to draft somebody they think can step in and do ok year 1 or really have a lot of confidence in Stephenson to do well with this new coaching staff.

New podcast out! (also available on iTunes). Dive into pros and cons of some first round options for Denver and then deep dive into some edge rushers!

LISTEN: Round One Options For The Broncos
Good talk guys.

My pet peeve is that there are always guys (here, locally and nationally) that say you have to only select a RB that will carry the rock in the 1st round. Blah Blah Blah. Such an old way of thinking IMO. The Broncos need playmakers. I would really try to project TDs out of Mac not yards. 7 TDs this year would be about right for me. I could see the U TE being #20. Don;t think they will select a Olineman at #20. Be willing to put up a nice bet on this.

McCaffrey is a different bread just because he can play multiple positions so he makes a lot of sense considering he fills lots of holes the Broncos have. I don't think though there are many guys that come along at the RB position like that of McCaffrey. So that is why the old needs to be a 3-down type RB still comes into play. This is a unique draft in there are a lot of those hybrid/multiple position type guys. Which is good because the Broncos need one of those.

As for the bet. I would be more than willing to take that bet about no OL player in the 1st. What do you want the bet to be?

Denver will not draft a OL in the 1st round. I have a pair of Broncos tix to put up. $100 cash value. Probably $200+ on Broncos exchange.

With Mac you are getting probably a top 2 slot WR and top 2 PR/KR in the draft. His running is a bonus.

Philly , SF, Den and Indy within the Mac camp as the most interested so far. Philly at #14, Indy at #15. SF maybe coming back up in the 1st or trading down from #2.

Well I don't really have anything like that to offer at the moment. Let me think on the bet for a bit.

i honestly think its more likely that the top 3 guys on their board are gone before their pick, meaning they won't take one. From talking with my guy with denver connections he told me, pre combine, denver had top 15 grade on Ram/Bolles/Lamp and had an undecided on Robinson cuz they needed to meet with him, had a lot of questions and wanted to put him through the whiteboard ringer.

Also my guy said strong chance that all 4 of the top olinemen are GONE before 20 which is yikes worthy..

I think if crob/ram/lamp are there at 20 and denver hasn't traded for OT before then or a crazy good value is there (allen/oj/foster/thomas/one of the top CBs/Fournette) then i can't see them skipping Oline

that said, things have changed since combine and there is new scouts in there since we lost some to 49ers so we will see
