I think Emory has put together more talent then any other GM we have had in 25 years. He has missed a few too. I think were a top 5 talent offensively, and around 20 defensively.

Here, I'll help with this thread:

2014 Draft Class
Kyle Fuller
Ego Ferguson
Will Sutton
Kadeem Carey
Brock Vereen
David Fales
Pat O'Donnell
Charles Leno

2013 Draft Class
Kyle Long
Jonathan Bostic
Khassem Greene
Jordan Mills
Cornelius Washington
Marquess Wilson

2012 Draft Class
Shea McClellin
Alshon Jeffery
Brandon Hardin
Evan Rodriguez
Isaiah Frey
Greg McCoy

Too early (for me) to rate the 2014 class, except for Kyle Fuller. The other classes have a couple gems, but the rest of the lot, not exactly impressive.

We'll finally get a chance to see Marquess Wilson after the break if I'm not mistaken. I wouldn't write off the 2013 class quite yet.

That's my take on the drafts listed. I really like this last draft class. Like pointed out on another board I frequent. It is the fact we have zero decent players left over from the Jerry Angelo years that is hurting this team. Williams and Carimi should be book ends, Wright should be starting FS, The second round pool jumping outer guy should be starting at DT etc... We have entire vetern classes completely missing from the Bears. That is another thing that is killing this team.

Talent-wise, they are up there.

Unfortunately, they lead the league in SQUANDERED talent.

That's where I am beginning to think Emery has let this team down, picking coaches.

I like your optimism, but I think you're being way too generous.

I see Ego Ferguson as a possible starter, but Will Sutton as just a part of the rotation....which is good, but not a starter.

I don't see Kadeem Carey as anything but a back-up. If he becomes our starter, then we are in trouble at running back. Don't get me wrong, he's not a bad back-up, but he's a back-up.

Pat O'Donnell is not impressing me up to this point. I would not at all be surprised if we have a different punter next year.

Charles Leno a possible starter? How can you say he is a possible future starter when he hasn't even seen the field yet? Possible starter? I don't think so.

Jonathan Bostic.....I think you're right, he is a future starter. But how good is he? I've been disappointed so far. Is there hope for him? I hope so, but the longer he's out on the field looking clueless, the more concerned I am.

Marquess Wilson - I think you're right, there is a possibility he may contribute, but to this point, he's only seen the field for a handful of plays. I hope he comes back and shows us something special.

For certain Phil Emery has found some gems in Kyle Fuller, Kyle Long, Alshon Jeffery, and Jordan Mills. We'll have to keep an eye on Ego Ferguson, Will Sutton, Brock Vereen, Jonathan Bostic, and Marquess Wilson before we can truly evaluate Phil Emery.

It takes three years to fairly evaluate a draft class, but Emery's first class looks largely like a dud — Jeffrey is the only contributor (and a good one).

Hardin was a gamble that didn't pan out, Rodriguez was another gamble (of a different sort) that blew up, and McClellin looks more and more like a panic pick when Bruce Irvin and Melvin Ingram went off the board ahead of the Bears' pick.

Pat O'Donnell isn't going anywhere. No punter jokes, but seriously, he will be our punter for the next decade.

That's where I'm at. If these dudes are on the field and contributing in year 3, then they are legit players and the draft was a success.

I'm not trying to defend Emery- I have to ask...what does a typically good draft look like? What would make you satisfied? If each draft had what?
The reason I ask, is because I don't know if everyone is expecting to draft HOF players with every 1st round pick, Probowl players with every 2-3rd round pick, Starters on the rest and of course the golden "tom brady" 6th rounder?

Let's say 3 years after the draft of 7 players:
How many should be starters?
How many should be Probowlers/knocking on the door?
How many should be on the team?
How many should be role players/special teams?

Of course we aren't advocating to draft a guy with the idea that his ceiling is a role player/special teams... but we also know that every team has guys that are drafted that don't even make the team. Every team has 1st round busts... ect.
Are our expectations too high? Do we expect every 1st rounder to be J.J. Watt?
It's just not realistic.

I say if you have 5 of 7 guys contributing- at least

2 starters
2 role players/Capable backups/special teams
1 Bonafide Probowler/knocking on the door.

That's an amazing draft- Even if that means your 2nd rounder busted and your 5th rounder was cut in camp. If you can do that for 3 out of 4 years. That's crazy good drafting.

There are some very talented players on this roster.

Too bad talent doesn't win you games as much in the NFL like it does in the NCAA.

I also had difficulties with Emery passing up Chandler Jones to get Shea McClellin. I think many on the KFFL board believed this was a sign that we may be going to a 3-4 defense or some type of hybrid system. When that never materialized, we were stuck with a smallish DE who was prone to having concussions......Now we have a below average linebacker who is prone to injuries.

I don't know what he was thinking there because the combination of Chandler Jones and Alshon Jeffery may have made me consider that draft a success.

I wasn't very high on Jones in the 2012 draft for the Bears, particularly in light of Lovie Smith's track record for developing project players. But I'm pretty sure what Emery was thinking is that Jones wasn't a finished product (he had the physical ability to be what he's become, but then so did Jarron Gilbert), and Jones didn't appear to fit Smith's defense very well.

And McClellin did fit Lovie's defense?
