Weird to see this after Mahomes trucked a defender last week.

Mahomes isnt Lamar Jackson. Defenses can gameplan around him running pretty easily.

Its different, though. Defenses play deep shells against the Chiefs under the idea that the Chiefs will make mistakes working the ball down the field. If teams did that against the most mobile QBs, they'd get killed on a regular basis Id imagine.

My point is simply that there can't be a double standard with mobile QBs and excellent scramblers for defensive players, especially if a QB is juking down the sideline and potentially taking advantage of the 'cant breathe on the QB' rules these days.

Im not advocating injuring anyone, just be consistent with penalty calls and level the playing field.

This is definitely not new. I remember Joe Montana was basically untouchable on KC. Mahomes got hit in the throat the other day and the ref was right there and didnt throw anything. I dont think there is any conspiracy or anything. If anything, Cam Newton being so big meant that defenders could get away with more. In fact, the strategy against prime Newton was to hit him as hard and often as possible.

Mahomes in general runs way more in the postseason if I had to guess. I know the Chiefs GM is probably on the phone right now hoping that he can pick someone up some Mahomes isnt running as much.

Depends entirely on the situation but you can't be afraid to tackle anyone.

Specifically with Mahomes, though, defenses can live with what they're doing. The Chiefs will turn the ball over. The tougher nut to crack is that they are good in all phases so if your team is bad in one phase you'll lose.

The coaches have been so influenced by the refs that they are telling their players to back off to avoid the penalty.
