how bad will this off season hurt us ?

i think early on it will be significant .

we are a young team and are unsettled at LT . the lack of OTAS and mini camps ( we should have gotten 2 ) hurt this football team . good , experienced , perennial contenders can shake it off better , but young teams like ours need reps in practice to work out the hiccups

lets look at the left side of our o/line . the candidates are christian , lucas and charles . christian certainly needs snaps , lucas would as well since he is mostly a RT and charles is a 4th round rookie

at LG we have martin , he too , had limited snaps and needs more

haskins as well as i like him again is very limited in experience

so we have a new HC , a new OC and a new DC and a butt ton of lost snaps . hard to come out of the gate strong with a young team like that

then you have a shortened preseason . little time to work on game management with a young team or to see what you really have

i tell you early in the year we could struggle mightily

Yeah, I imagine the Zoom sessions they've had have been very helpful, but there's only so much you can do without physical work on the field. People that played the game say there's no substitute for reps.

There is no substitute for reps. Muscle memory increases with reps. More reps also give coaches a chance to work on players footwork and hand and arm positions. As we all know young players have to get used to the increased speed of the game and more complicated plays. Of course good coaching and I think we all believe the coaching has improved. My guess is that coaches will put the young guys in packages they can succeed in instead of trying to insert a square peg in a round hole.

The players don't even want one preseason game. Of course, that's their Players Association - made up mostly of veterans. Of course, no preseason games pretty much prevents a surprising rookie from taking a veteran's job.
