Just spitballing, but Varlamov makes perfect sense in Calgary when healthy - maybe even in a dollar-for-dollar deal since the Avalanche are hankering for a top-four defencemen.

But it's worth mentioning that Calgary has only played 4 games against division opponents who, for the most part, don't look good. They could easily start climbing the standings as they play more in-division games starting with 3 in a row next week.

I think that's the only saving grace is that if (a very big if) they can have the same divisional record that they had last season (or close to it), not all hope is lost.

Toughest division in hockey. Oh wait just checked my watch it is not 2012.
I thought for sure the Ducks would be better. The Flames and the Sharks head scratch
I haven't looked today but after Saturday's game the Kings with 22 points would host the Blues with 23 if the playoffs were now

The bigger problem to me is where's the offense. I remember the days when there were several players over 100 points in a season. Last year there was ZERO. Offense has been the biggest problem for my team (the Islanders). It's a problem throughout the league.

The league needs to streamline goalie equipment. Use the same material that's being used now, however they need to make the pads smaller. A tweak here & there can make a big difference in improving offense throughout the league.

I haven't looked but I think the Kings have the same number of points as they did a year ago.
Last year they were looking for a wild card. This year leading the Pacific
