How did your fav team finish in the minors this year? The Sabres AHL Portland team did pretty good esp seeing we took a few of their better players for long periods of time.

Team W L OTL SOL PTS PCT GF GA

Portland Pirates 47 24 7 2 103 0.644 280 238

First place in their div. Not bad.

3rd in the division, though only 4 points back of the lead.
fair to middling, but not bad considering Canucks took THEIR top 6 d-men at some point in the season.
Nucks have also taken their top forward for the upcoming playoffs (Hodgson), so if they make a run, it will be as an underdog.

the most exciting news:
- Eddie Lack has emerged from out of nowhere as the next Corey Schneider (maybe).
- Chris Tanev has shot up the depth chart on D - he is NHL ready right now.

WB/S Penguins went 58-21-0 to win the AHL regular season.

I don't know how they managed it considering the amount of players that were taken off of their roster in the second half on the NHL season.

The American Hockey League announced today that Brad Thiessen of the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins has been named the winner of the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award as the AHL’s outstanding goaltender for the 2010-11 season, as voted by coaches, players and members of the media in each of the league’s 30 cities.

Thiessen has posted a sparkling record of 34-7-1 in 44 appearances and ranks first in the AHL with his franchise-record 34 wins, second with a 1.93 goals-against average, ninth with a .922 save percentage and tied for first with seven shutouts while helping the Penguins to the top-ranked defense in the AHL.

^^^that might be why ^^^

He becomes the second Wilkes-Barre/Scranton goaltender to win the Aldege “Baz” Bastien Memorial Award, which honors former Pittsburgh Penguins general manager Baz Bastien. Bastien played four seasons in goal with the AHL’s Pittsburgh Hornets (1945-49) before suffering a career-ending eye injury, and would go on to serve as head coach and general manager of the Hornets, leading them to the 1967 Calder Cup championship.

I'm pretty proud of the WB/S Pens. Had the best season in team history with the Pittsburgh team taking their top 5 or 6 scorers at some point during the season. We also took some of their best defense-men from years past for entire season in Lovejoy and Engelland. That and we damaged them. And with the injuries to Tangradi, DJ, and Nick Johnson, none were allowed to return to WB/S during the AHL playoffs. Some weird rule. Even with all of that, they're strong candidates this year for the Calder Cup.

if they are hurt up here, then they have to stay up here until they are well.
happened last year when Bolduc went outside of his weight class against John Scott and got his arm ripped off. So he spent all of rehab getting NHL paychecks.
also, happened to Lee Sweatt this year. played a couple of games, got hurt and collected ka-ching while he healed up.

The Baby Sens made the playoffs (92 points) despite having their roster pillaged by the big club starting in January.

They seem to have a really good teaching coach in Kurt Kleinendorst. All the players that came up to the big club did so with great habits. Hopefully he can stick with the organization for at least a couple years of the current rebuilding.

I think the Baby Pens coach got Coach of the Year as well. Man that place just breeds good coaches.
