UH offensive coordinator resigns two days after upset loss - Houston Chronicle
Damn, it's not like getting 70 pts hung on your ass. Man up!! Unless he was forced to resign, which is my guess.
University of Houston offensive coordinator Mike Nesbitt has resigned and assistant coach Travis Bush will handle play-calling duties and will coach the quarterback position, head coach Tony Levine announced Monday.
The fallout comes two days after the Cougars' embarrassing 30-13 season-opening loss to Texas State. The 13 points by the Cougars tied for the second-fewest in a game since 2007.
"We wish Mike the best in his future endeavors and thank him for his contributions to the Houston program," said Levine. "We are confident in Travis and his play-calling ability moving forward."
Bush was offensive coordinator at UTSA last season and previously spent three seasons as co-offensive coordinator at Texas State.
Levine and UH officials said they will have no further comment.
Against Texas State, the Cougars were never able to get into an offensive rhythm with 12 of their 14 possessions lasting two minutes or less. The Cougars had the ball for only 16 minutes and 51 seconds.
The Cougars struggled in the passing game with quarterback David Piland completing only 17 of 44 attempts for 211 yards. They also were 1-for-13 on third-down conversions and 0-for-3 on fourth down.
After the game, Levine said the Cougars' inability to throw deep was "probably the worst I've seen since I've been here five years."
Levine also said the Cougars needed to get running back Charles Sims more involved in the game. Sims had 13 rushes for 77 yards and only one catch out of the backfield.
