Boras continues to be delusional

Hosmer is 28 and the Royals are willing to sign him through 35. Boras is just upping the dollars for the 7 years. The Royals won't want to pay another $21M for a 36 year old chance in 2026. My guess is that he'll push for $23M a year which will put the dollars at $161M.

The Red Sox were really interested in Hosmer but needed to sign JD Martinez first. When Jeter gave away Stanton to the Yankees, the Red Sox said not worth the Luxury Tax.

Regardless of whatever happens with Hosmer, no one, including the Royals and the A's, need Brandon Moss. He sucks.

Not really. You'd have to consider which were the largest media markets back then, especially before the first expansion in the early 60s.: NY, LA, Chicago, Phillie, Detroit, Bay Area, DC, Boston, KC, Cincy
The Yankees and Dodgers did well before free agency but they are only two examples. The Chicago teams were not so good. Nor the Philadelphia teams. Nor DC teams.

Cleveland was considered a big market back then. Things change.

But your moss comment is on point.

They're going to be over anyway unless they make a big move to get under.

They gave up so little that it barely matters.

If you wanna argue they should've just thrown them into a Cole deal and signed JD, sure.

But JD is a DH.

stanton is still a plus OF.

And Stanton is only making $16 million (from the Yanks) in each of the next 3 years, and he can opt out after 2, and I wouldnt rule that out once he sees what kind of money Harper and Machado get

I dont like the idea of locking up the DH spot for the next 5/6 with JD Martinez, who is a brutal fielder, not when they will like to use Sanchez there from time to time, or maybe a Bird to give him a breather

He'll certainly try, but if the Red Sox are involved and the only other suitor is the Padres who would need to pay more than 160M just to match the Royals offer, it starts getting kind of difficult to see how Hosmer isn't a Royal unless the Red Sox re-involve themselves. At this point, I'll believe it when I see it with the Red Sox.

The Sox bringing back Moreland pretty much ended the Hosmer pursuit, cause they also have Hanley between 1st and DH

That's what I have been thinking too so I am not "worried" about the Sox getting involved at this point.

With that said, they are all in on JD Martinez, if they lose out on him, desperation could set in and I wouldnt rule anything out, cause they absolutely need to add a significant bat

And conversely the Cubs, White Sox and Phillies have hardly been dominant teams since Curt Flood either.
