I never understood why they changed perez's deal.

Duffy being out for TJ hurts more because he would've been an easily tradeable asset.

They were just trying to treat Perez the right way. They knew they were getting a deal and tried to do right by him.

Duffy isnt out for TJ.

KC appears in that directionless rut that you hate to see your team in

Hosmer signing is a nice story for a kid thats been their his whole career, and is probably a great leader and rep for your team and city

But where are they as a franchise? Should they shelling out that dough at this stage of where they are?

Trying to rebuild while staying somewhat competitive because they know people will abandon them again

They have picked up a shitload of pitchers this winter, hoping to get a young affordable starter or two.

They are pretty hamstrung with Gordon and Kennedy's deals.

Damn, I thought Duffy got TJ.

If he's healthy he's easy enough to move.

The Kennedy and Gordon ones you knew were bad deals at the time.

He did in 2012, so you were still right

He can't think the Royals are gonna go more than 7 and hamstring the whole franchise. Maybe that's the point.

I'm baffled why either would want to sign him. MLB Hot Stove was saying this morning that it would probably be better for Hosmer to go elsewhere so it doesn't look like he's holding back the rebuilding effort by making too much money.

Translation: We want Boston to re-involve themselves in the Hosmer market.

Are other teams even interested in Hosmer?
According to Jon Morosi of MLB Network, "Eric Hosmer's camp has continued pushing for" a contract of more than seven years.

Hosmer has a couple of seven-year offers on the table -- one from the Padres reportedly worth around $140 million and one from the Royals that is said to be worth $147 million -- but the 28-year-old free agent and his representatives are hoping a club will ultimately reach a little higher. Morosi notes that the Royals' capacity to pay Hosmer increased somewhat with Monday's trade of Brandon Moss. Hosmer posted a career-best .318/.385/.498 batting line with 25 home runs and 94 RBI over 162 games for Kansas City in 2017.:suds:

Boston has their own version of Hosmer already, at a 2/13 price.

It's JD Martrinez or bust right now.
Yankees would've been a lot better off to sign JD than trade for Stanton.

JD is great to the opposite field.

They gave up so little that it barely matters.

If you wanna argue they should've just thrown them into a Cole deal and signed JD, sure.

But JD is a DH.

stanton is still a plus OF.

Curt Flood ruined baseball. Well, not for the players, but he ruined baseball for small market teams. What he did was not wrong. He was a pioneer. He brought players out of bondage. But, what he did also changed the financial landscape of baseball forever and it changed in a way that benefitted large market teams while handicapping small market teams.

Seems to me that the richest teams in the biggest markets did pretty well before Curt Flood too though, no?

Boras continues to be delusional
Regardless of whatever happens with Hosmer, no one, including the Royals and the A's, need Brandon Moss. He sucks.

Not really. You'd have to consider which were the largest media markets back then, especially before the first expansion in the early 60s.: NY, LA, Chicago, Phillie, Detroit, Bay Area, DC, Boston, KC, Cincy
The Yankees and Dodgers did well before free agency but they are only two examples. The Chicago teams were not so good. Nor the Philadelphia teams. Nor DC teams.
