Baseball has regional stars that only reach as much as the teams market their players, sadly. They have utterly failed to cash in previously on Mike Trout and Bryce Harper at their peak of ability/popularity, and a big part of Ohtani is the attention that he brings from overseas.

They could take some notes from how the NBA does things.

I was rooting for him and he did better than I expected

But at same time, being proud of him in this derby is like applaud varsity football player for beating up a chubby 7th grader with down syndrome.

Feels like it's going NBA dunk contest, the real stars bail, the participants go from B list to C list, not much new and exciting just endless home runs off batting practice pitches. Not everything lasts forever in sports.

Obviously it would be different if Judge and Soto and Ohtani were up there but that'll never happen like the MJ vs Nique dunk contest, that era is over.

Going back to just 10 outs would help tho.

Guys would sit back and be able to crank. And also way more inclined to perform.

The speed thing is way to tiring and guys don’t care about it. And those that do, it’s more of a strategic consistent swing thing instead of hitting bombs.

Heck they don’t even need to get stars if guys are allowed to just grip and rip 480.

Agreed. And you had the ESPN2 broadcast noting how Jose Ramirez changed his swing completely for this.

Pretty Telling that the two guys who had the most home runs in this- Ozuna and Henderson- did not do great.

They need to find a way to get bigger names into this too.
