It looks like he is trying to stay alive instead of attacking the ball. Confidence I guess. He has to get the ball into the OF to use his speed. Jones never figured it out so I hope Marte does.

Jones problem is that he was good at that but they don't have anyone in the organization that says hey lets make you a complete hitter, your fast and once the league figures you out instead of adjusting lets just turn you into a pinch runner, it's always you have some strengths so let's use those and pretend you don't have weaknesses.
