LET IT GROW!!!!

Y! SPORTS

I applaud what NBCSports has done with helping promote the sport. I wish they would cover NHL even more though. Instead of televising fishing competitions or shows, drop that and add more hockey. the NHL documentaries are absolutely awesome. Even got the wife interested in watching it.

Hope NHL continues to grow more and more in popularity. games need to be on more channels instead of NBC and what we get locally here on the Comcast Sports Channel.

Agreed - NHL has done well lately with the marketing

Hockey always outsells the NBA at the gate. The NHL's problem is that it can't compete with the other the big sports in tv ratings in the US (i.e. ad revenues).

The Doobster would rather attend the ballet or opera than attend NBA games. Big fan of Pitt Panther basketball tho.

NBA is just not a good product unless it's Lebron. I don't like the hype around the guy, but goodness he's a beast. Just a beast. I digress...the NHL is still on the upswing IMO. That NHL Revealed series is going to be awesome. It helps that these guys are relatable. If they did "behind the scenes" on some of the bigger/younger NBA guys it'd likely show a life most Americans couldn't relate to in the least...show an NHLer's day to day, and you think they're just average people...with a lot of money.

NBA is crap. Enjoy watching the same 6 teams win it year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year after year (this is not an exaggeration the same 6 teams have won 27 of the last 30 NBA titles).

In comparison 15 different teams have won the last 30 Stanley Cup titles.

The issue is that the average NBA fan can't afford to go to the game.

The average NHL can't really afford games either. Hockey is just SOOOOOO much better in person

I'd be pretty happy with some of the Florida/Tampa deals they got down there. $20 for a seat, beer and a hot dog. Sign me up.

When we had a minor league team in Baltimore they had some good deals. They had the Baltimore Hat Trick, which was a ticket, a stabbing, and some light sexual assualt for $22.75. Good times.

Also I think you could upgrade to get a hot dog for $3 more.

To follow up on my previous comment, I don't want the NHL to be as popular as the other three big sports. Part of the reason I like hockey so much is it's uniqueness. I would rather the NHL keep it's individuality and protect the integrity of the game I love so much rather than dumb it down for mass appeal.

The best things are not the most popular. Nickelback, McDonalds, and Twilight are popular and are complete shit in my opinion. Let the other sports chase the lowest common denominator, I am just fine with hockey being less popular and of higher quality.

Agreed, and while I am happy that the NHL is making money I really don't want Bettman to be rewarded for the last six years of this every game is only two players playing bullshit.

Or pushing four guys in the league down our throats every damn day. There are good stories everywhere. I would much rather hear about some longshot's path to the NHL than another story about what kind of Pop Tarts Sid likes.

I think hockey has gotten popular despite that. Not because of it. Simply put, you go to a game, you are going to enjoy the intensity. You play it as a kid, you are going to love it for life.

Expect 9 "Stadium" games next year I suppose. Maybe all of January will be played outdoors in a few years.

Took me a bit to get through that first paragraph. Was too distracted by watching highlights of last night's shootouts.

Gotta agree with the statement that if Hockey gets as popular it will be watered down and not as good. Good points.

But, I would prefer there to be more TV games. In my market, we only get whatever game is aired on NBCsports that night and maybe on CSN if the Canucks are playing. Otherwise it's tough to catch a game. Either wish NBC would air two games a night or do in the regular season like they do in the playoffs and have MSNBC and their other networks air games through the week.

Been to a few down there... It's always an away home game for Northeast teams. The snowbirds love having a place that their teams can come to while they are wintering.

~edit... I've only been to Panther games. It's probably a little different in Tampa.

My parents are seriously considering moving to Florida...and I may follow for this reason alone. Okay, not only that reason.

I dunno, when I watch Pens games in Tampa it's pretty much a home game. And Boston games. And Washington games.
